They lost another 1st game in a series, so now they got the Avs where they want them, right? Right?!

So do we start Koskinen for the next game?

Still can’t believe that offside call.

Have you watched this team? of course Smith is back. Kostko already has one foot out the door.

The NHL remains the dumbest league in all of sports.

Mike Smith is such a liability.

Cale Makar is going to be a lot to handle in this series.

Don't know why I wasn't expecting another run and gun game, but heck it's what happened. That call was possibly the worse I've ever seen, even in the lower levels of UK hockey leagues. That was the difference tonight, that goal and the PP goal after it. The league cost us that one.

I've gone with us in 6, now let them go and prove me right!!

This game comes down to a completely blown call, followed by a penalty for the challenge. Crazy crazy game, but that's possession. If that is the standard then linesmen blow it on offsides all the time.

Good resiliency again. Love the team just continuing to battle back. That put the scare in Calgary - I hope it works again this series.

Smith has to stop something though. Just a dreadful performance. Lots of good shots, but he's gotta stop good shots some times. It's going to be pretty important in this series.

I really don't get the blind spot that Woodcroft has for Archibald. Tagged for another goal against, plus many momentum killing shifts because inexplicably, we love to play the fourth line after we score a goal. The Ryan goal is going to keep them all in yet again though.

I think we need Holloway in, but Woody seems married to having a crappy fourth line, so only way he gets in is if Foegele or Puljujarvi get sat.

I thought the Arch line had two really good shifts followed by a lot of turds.

Another ridiculous first game. Sham officiating. Atrocious defence and starting tending on both sides. Not really worried at this point - I think Colorado has some big weaknesses that the Oilers can expose - seemed to me that they clog the centre but allow a ton of cycling. .

Too many timely mistakes. Again in game 1. Focus just totally goes out the window in key moments like after we score. Knock it off and we have a shot.

I've seen an offside call just like that Makar one that was deemed OK so I can live with it. Technically he doesn't play the puck in the zone until his teammate tocuhed up. We had no business letting that all happen right after we scored.

Sucks though. Puck bounces off makars stick just on the edge of the blue line. Just a millimeter fluke ends up with the goal counting plus a powerplay goal against.

Defense and goaltending. Same as it ever was. If the Oilers don’t outscore those problems, we know the result.

Wonder if the human bandaid will be back for the Avs next game. Not sure if I prefer Francouz though. He has had some unbeatable streaks in his short career and kuemper has been playing bad.

Koskinen was easily the best goalie tonight, but I don’t see either of these teams beating Vasilevsky or Shesterkin.

Let's see a kostko vs Francouz duel. Both guys came to the NHL at the same time as KHL stars.

Woodcroft got a question about how we went 5-0 on challenges but now that he got one wrong will he re-evaluate how the team approaches challenges.

That's got to be one of the strangest questions I've heard so far this season. What possible answer aside from "no" would anyone expect to get? And what possible value in any way would any answer about changing how you approach reviewing a challenge provide to someone asking the question?

Still wanna know what Keith was doing on the gwg against

https://i.ibb.co/DtVPRgf/Keithwth.jpg

He's just watching the play and decides he is gonna pretend to be a winger, skating right up against our winger. Instant 2 on 1 against is created. He was never close to making any play on the puck or doing anything useful. Just decides, screw it, don't wanna be a dman right now, i wanna be a winger!

You can make one of these for just about everybody on the team. Drai and especially McD were doing nothing on the MacKinnon goal.

Why are you singleing out Keith?

Because he's doing this stuff all the time and kills us on a goal almost every game. He's supposed to be a reliable vet, yet he's abandoning the blueline for no reason at all here to leave Bouch for a 2 on 1. Ends up being the GWG as well. One brutal mistake too many by the guy here to teach the boys how to win. When really, it's Bouch that has to constantly bail him out as he gets out of position and gives up the blueline on almost every rush against.

Why can't he just play his position here? This is more blatant to me than a forward missing coverage. This is our vet D just deciding he wants to stand right by our winger in the offensive zone for no reason. Makes no sense at all.

Mister Holloway .. you're up.

Play him for Archi on the 4th, and if he looks good.. move him up to the 3rd.

I'd love to see them do this - especially as the fourth line allowed yet another goal against tonight for 6 in 6 games, and they absolutely killed our momentum multiple times by coming out and getting hemmed in our own zone (while running around and trying to throw hits though!). Archibald should be out of the lineup, but that goal by Ryan keeps them in. Certainly it gave enough confidence to Woodcroft that Kassian and Archibald played more than Foegele and Puljujarvi tonight.

This is just Woodcroft's blind spot. He thinks he's "softening up the defence" by playing Archibald - even as it costs him a goal a game.

Oh and just to be clear.. Ron McLean is an absolute embarrassment, his extended intermission "big-screen explanation" trying to confuse the audience into believing that the off-side goal was in fact not actually off-side was pathetic. He didn't even understand the drivel that was coming out of his own mouth. One of the most embarrassing displays of NHL bootlicking by media I've ever seen.

Can't believe that ass-hat claims to be a referee.

Makar had POSSESSION of the puck the entire time he crossed the blue line.. the puck NEVER left the control of his stick.. he did not "shoot" it in over the line and then "picked it up" on the other side of the blue line..

End. Of. Discussion.

You don't lose "possession" if the puck does not continually touch the stick.. if you are "stickhandling" it never does.. its in fact the exact definition of stick "handling".. what defines "possession" is "control of the puck".. and Makar had control the entire time. Easy decision.

NO GOAL

The Avs 3rd goal (off-side), 4th goal (PPG from challenging the NHL's incompetence/bias) .. and the 8th goal (EN) were all the result of the NHL's decision to re-write the NHL rule book as they conducted the review..

Oilers won 6-5

Game 2, Oilers need to tighten up in their own end (they did the last half of the game).. and then just keep pumping pucks past Kuemper.. icon_nod

Well, I'll disagree slightly. We didn't win, even if that's clearly a major turning point. It's impossible to know how the game plays out without that call.

I thought Woodcroft did a good job explaining it after the game. Makar carries the puck across the line and never makes any attempt to hold up or avoid playing the puck. As Jay says, "it's not like he stops and lifts his stick for a second, he doesn't even know his guy is off-side." To me, that's possession. The NHL blows down the play on possession on delayed off-sides and penalty kills regularly where the guy hasn't yet touched the puck. Here they're clinging to a fraction of a second, if you allow that he didn't still have the puck touching his stick when it fully crossed the blueline, which is controversial in its own right.

If this is really the rule, then undoubtedly refs get it wrong all the time when players are tagging up, as they need to see whether the puck actually touched the stick on his stickhandling or was between taps whenever they are making that call. That's just not consistent with the way the game is officiated.

Just a brutal call. Maybe that's the hockey gods coming back on us after the Calgary disallowed goal (which to me was a 50/50 play), although they still owe us for the McDavid "goalie interference" one a couple games earlier then.

There is no way a linesman saw all of the slow-mo replays in real time. If he isn't completely incompetant, the play is blown dead on the ice and none of this happens.

Unfortunately either Brad Kovachik (#71) or Devin Berg (#87) couldn't do the simplest part of their job right. He was a foot inside the zone!
