Another strong performance by The Principal tonight will go a long way in this team moving on from a Koskinen/Smith tandem 😏

Going to the game in person tonight with the whole family. $23/each for upper bowl seats. Hoping for a barn burner and a McDavid special!

Father in-law just grabbed tickets for tomorrow’s game against the Yotes. $50. Lower bowl. Unreal.

Ah Dallas, home of long time Oiler dman Andrej Sekera.

Fun fact, his contract in Dallas is up this year, while we are paying him for two more seasons.

Same here. I'm still confused as to why felt the urgent need to buy out his contract.

You can thank a Duck, may have been Perry. He was a good dman for the Oilers but never the same after his knee was blown up.

Still not someone I would have bought out though. I agree he slowed down, but we was and still is an NHLer. We saved $3M per for the 2 years he had left on his deal. Plus an extra $1.5 for 2 more years...It was a dumb buyout. Almost as stupid as the Pouliot one.

Really underscores the importance of defensive depth.

Unrelated: game two without Nurse.

And we have three more possible D call-ups percolating in Bako, 1) Samorukov, 2) Niemelainen, 3) Berglund.. good depth on D.. forwards not so much, save Holloway.. when he's healthy.

I remember watching Sekera carrying the puck up the ice and I screaming: "Dump it in, shoot the $%^&*ing puck!!!!" because you could see Getzlaf targeting him from about 50 feet away. Sekera held the puck, got totalled on the hit and was done. I really like the new intensity and concentration on speed - Yamamoto gets hit like that all the time but just just bounces up and keeps on skating.

I have the least expectation of a win tonight out of all the games on the trip but I still expect a 3-0 mark.

If you're talking Oettinger, one of the Stars pundits was saying he's been their best tender..

All games in the NHL take a 100% effort or you lose. the formula for wins is Win = (Effort x Talent) + luck
Effort is a multiplier, if your talent lacks effort, the probability of a win goes down.
Less talent can win with great effort, and the more talented team leaves their effort with the luggage on the bus.

Oil need to bring it, lets see if they've learned any lessons from recent losses to lower ranked teams.

Alternate Formula;

Win = (Effort x Talent) + luck + Ref Management

Agree, don't sleep on Oettinger. He played a pretty decent amount of games last season and wasn't bad at all.
I have been following his progress since his draft year and seems he is well on his way to being a starting goalie. I only knew of him because a buddy of mine is big stars fan and told me to draft him in my dynasty fantasy league.

$23/each for NHL tickets. Awesome. I don't know if I can get ECHL ones for that here on the Rock.

Sekera... there was some rationale for buying him out. Probably because they thought some young dman was ready, making Sekera expendable. That is the Oilers way. {Checks hockeydb.com - Ah, yes Caleb Jones looked good in his 17 game debut.}

Of course, with the way the team was drafting dmen, the plan had to be to start using the blueline as a strength. It's actually a smart move, if you can do it right. Even your 5-6 men are vital to a team's success. On most teams, the 7-9 guys are vital at times. That leads us to Broberg and tonight. On the road, with the first game jitters out of the system, it will be interesting to see what sort of game Broberg plays tonight. No matter how good he is, I suspect he'll be yo-yoing up and down between the Condors and the Oilers simply due to his waiver status. If the Oilers have room on the roster for him, he's up. If not, he's down. Skinner may have to be treated the same way unless he blows the doors off the place.

Skinner vs Oettinger should be interesting. Neither has a long resume, but Oettinger's short-term sample this season is even better than Skinner's. We'll see if it looks so shiny after playing against the Oilers PP for a few minutes.

I’m sure they could have found someone to take him for 50% retained. Even with nothing coming back, it would only have cost an extra $250k in cap space for the 2 remaining years, and then you’re done with it. That is why it was so dumb. Not to mention they didn’t even use the cap space they got. Like with Pouliot. Just dumb

$23/each for NHL tickets. Awesome. I don't know if I can get ECHL ones for that here on the Rock.

Sekera... there was some rationale for buying him out. Probably because they thought some young dman was ready, making Sekera expendable. That is the Oilers way. {Checks hockeydb.com - Ah, yes Caleb Jones looked good in his 17 game debut.}

Jinxed! :)
