Might as well engrave the goal of the year trophy tonight. Dear god that was amazing. All of it. Spectacular.

Referees on the other hand - the opposite of all that. The last 2 minutes of regulation they could have called at least 5 flagrant penalties. In OT, a few more. It’s time this team as a whole gets respect, but especially McDavid. He’s too fast for you? Well sorry, not sorry. Have a seat for 2 or less.

That was spectacular hockey, and that goal, through 4 Rangers....wow, but I totally agree with you that the referees were beyond bad tonight. McDavid was hauled down at least 3 times, and tripped countless others, and only 1 penalty against.... But on the bright side, 9-1 best start in Oiler history

Goalie wears a jock too. Just brilliant by Connor...indescribable.

Thank you. 1000%. Georgiev may have been the most beat. Unreal. I can’t believe I turned down tickets out of stupid pride.

This was a helluva last half of the game for the Oilers, overcoming giveaways, mistakes, a couple goals they needed a stop on, and garbage officiating... Down 4-1, only the time remaining kept me watching.

I don't know what tbe quality scoring chances were in this game, but if the Oilers had connected on some, this might have been 8 or 9-5.

This might have been one of the best meaningful regular season goals I've ever seen, 97 from the blue line in against 4 guys hacking and whacking, to tie it up for the GTG. The OT goal was almost secondary, it was the logical conclusion after the tying goal.

We're still early in the season, 12% through, but anything seems possible. Belief generated in game 10 can serve the team in the spring.

The potential for something special has existed for roughly 6 seasons… for some reason it keeps falling apart. I believe in the possibility of ridiculous McDavid goals. Unfortunately I still need to see a special season happen before I believe it’s possible.

Yeah, he doesn’t score this goal in the playoffs. One, or perhaps all 4, of those Rangers would have tackled him, turned the puck over, taken it the other way and buried it behind kosko

Oilers actually outplayed Rags pretty badly tonight, just Kostko keeping them down. Time for Smith to take over again.

Stat that McDavid/Drai are first teammates since 95/96 to have 20 points each in 10 games.

The 95/96 was a trio Lemiuex/Jagr/Francis all having 20.

Lots of PP time together of course, but also now lots of time of them playing on their own line and still getting stuff done.

So that goal. I saw it on my phone while at a gay bar for a friend's get together down in Denver. I couldn't wait to get home and watch it on a larger screen.

It's even better from all the angles.

97.

Fun game to be at!

Not a great game for Koskinen. Keith's worst game as an Oiler. Tippett with some really weird decisions - Bouchard to the third pair for no discernible reason, Shore to the 3rd line, McDrai again...

But it all works out because we have some phenomenal players, who do phenomenal things.

Hated the Oilers screwing with the three stars to name Lowe #1 though...

That was the best game since Flames Oilers goalie fight night.

McDavid keeps on surprising. Incredible.

Good teams make comebacks, Very Good/Great teams make comebacks and win!!

Wasn't our best game of the year by far, but wow the drive and desire to come back and do so was as good as I've seen out of the Oilers in a long long time. Years gone by us going down 4-1 and we'd be saying game over, not this team though.

As for THE goal, what more can you say other than just go and watch it at least 100 times just to try and work out how he did it. I have to admit that after the game finished (4.10am here) that I went back to bed, but for the best part of an hour I couldn't get back to sleep just thinking about the goal....

Shout out to the fans in the arena as well. It's easy cliche for me to suggest that North American arena's/stadiums are like libaries compared to the European ones, but the noise levels tonight was fantastic and certainly added to the team's drive tonight, that's how it should be every game, no matter what part of the season it is.

My new phone lock screen.

What a game, what a goal. Wow, that was fun last night!

This upcomong road trip will be a good test to see where this team is at. They need to tighten up a lot of things still but man, I'm starting to get that 06' feeling I remember having by around middle of the season. The team never seemed to be out of the game, always a threat to come back. We're seeing that now, plus they're ability to outscore their mistakes. For now though, just enjoying the ride! Fun times!

Based on last nights performance, I think we can eliminate Georgiev from the 'Goalies to consider acquiring' list.

We deserve to see McDavid day after day after day. We put in our money, our time, our anger and our tears and the hockey gods have bestowed upon us the greatness of that kid Connor McDavid.

The rest of the league hate that we have him, the NHL probably would have wished Connor went to a bigger market, but thankfully they didn't mess with the drawing. I remember Gary with cameras on him, someone mumbled Edmonton won and Gary saying who, and then I think glanced at the camera and said, "Edmonton? Okay."

Koskinen is a weak link on this team and I thought our defence stunk a little bit. Nurse .. you either love how he plays or hates it, I hate how he works the puck. I dunno why.

The Bison King JP slapper on the fly? Not many goals are scored like that these days.

On jersey retirement nights we lost often, but Friday we won and it was so special.

Draisaitl, "watch out, we're coming" to the Rangers player was a boss move.

The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.

Was curious about this, so I looked it up:

Wayne Gretzky - Oct 1, 1999 vs NYR - 1-1 Tie
Jari Kurri - Oct 6, 2001 vs PHX - 6-2 Win
Grant Fuhr - Oct 9, 2003 vs SJS - 5-2 Win
Paul Coffey - Oct 18, 2005 vs PHX - 4-3 OTL
Mark Messier - Feb 27, 2007 vs PHX - 3-0 Loss
Glenn Anderson - January 18th, 2009 vs PHX - 6-3 Win
Rod Phillips - March 29, 2011 vs. LAK - 2-0 Loss
Glen Sather - Dec 11, 2015 vs. NYR - 7-5 Win
Kevin Lowe - Nov 5th, 2021 vs NYR - 6-5 OTW

So with the win Friday, the Oilers have 5 wins, two losses, one tie and one overtime loss. I know there was a night for Al Hamilton in the last couple decades, but I have no idea when that was and couldn't find it in a quick Google search, so I haven't counted it.

Definitely, the most memorable for things other than the banner-raising was the Messier game following the Smyth trade, so it's understandable that jumps out in people's memories. I've been at all but the Fuhr and Phillips games, and the only ones I specifically remembered outside of the Messier night were that it was a tie in a bit of a snoozefest for Gretzky, and a barn-burner of a win on Sather night. I will probably not forget Lowe Night any time soon!

Looking this up, I almost forgot that Gretzky was involved with the Coyotes, necessitating the Phoenix team being a part of so many of our ceremonies...

Thanks! There also was another night when they officially hung the banner...Probably around 2003-2005 I think. I believe it was up before Messier's.

The only reference to a date that I could find was that the banner raising happened in 1998
