Skookum Jim wrote on Fri, 14 January 2022 13:17 | Good news.. the goalie pen will be full though.. Rodrigue, Stalock, Rodrigue, Kono, Skinner, Koski, Smith..
They keep a guy on the practice roster.. 1 + (2 in Bako) + (2 in ECHL) + (2 on the Oil) = 7
Oil
Koski Smith
(Kono?)
Bako
Skinner Stalock ?
ECHL
Kono Rodrigue ?

Sadly, none of them are NHL starting netminders!
Although worth saying, as I've been a bit hard on him, Skinner has looked to be the best option so far this season and probably should continue to get opportunities with Koskinen and Smith pretty underwhelming and/or injured all the time.

Stalock's career numbers are better than Koski's
His GAA is a little better than Smith and his SV% slightly worse
Stuart Skinner has the best GAA and SV% of all of them so far. only 10 games played, but I'd ride that horse with Stallock riding pine.
Koskinen can go home and Smith can retire.

Smith retiring wouldn't be good. Cap counts even if he does. Equipment allergy would work better.

Think because his 2nd year is >= first year that his contract is off the books if he retires. Purpose of the keeping it on the books thing was to prevent a back-diving deal, meant to cheat a lower cap hit with later years the player/team never intend to be played. We gave a back-loaded deal. Perhaps because we thought Smith would just keep getting better with age, but, by fluke, it also has the benefit of killing the cap hit if he retires :)
