Break the Jekyll and Hyde syndrome, please.

Jones needs a break, let’s see Russell tonight. *shudder* wow I need a shower. Never thought I’d say we need Russell in.

Kass should be back. Need him to be the animal we’ve seen in the past. I’m not talking the kicking or grabbing the turtle kinda animal. But this team needs jam and he’s gotta have his berries out to create that jam tonight.

Think Nuge pots the Oilers 1st tonight, but the Habs take it to us again in a 4-2 loss. PROVE ME WRONG BOYS

.. made me laugh !

Maybe Kassian's focus was distracted due to pending birth.. we'll see what he brings tonight..

C. Jones hasn't really shown much more so far than I remember KR bringing.. need to get him in games anyway, maybe turn Larsson/KR into the 3rd pair, move up KK/Barrie

I'm not sure what to think about the Oilers competitive strategy anymore....

I mean, I hate that we lose and suck often. That's a pretty terrible aspect of being an Oilers fan.

But without all that losing and sucking, we wouldn't have gotten Connor and Leon.

The thing that blows my mind is that we now have them and the losing and sucking continues! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

It's part of the fabric of this franchise now. Get steamrolled often by the opposition, even if you have two of the best hockey players on the planet on your team. Our D and goaltending need to get sorted fast and the forwards need to not get obliterated in the CF metrics... otherwise this season is going to continue heading south.

Every successful tank rebuild seemed to have some high end D already on the cusp of stepping into the NHL in sync with some young guns being drafted high. We may have actually had some good components of a D core with Petry, Klef, Gustafsson, Jultz. Pissed it all away though (except Klef who has just turned into a sad situation). Dismantled all our winger support for our elite C's too.

Oilers and buffalo are wonderful examples of how just losing isn't enough. Both tanked for many years. Both have owners desperate to win throwing money at everything. Neither has even had proper management.

I expect the Oilers to win. I don't think the Habs can come out flying again like that while the Oilers just stand around and watch them. Connor stunk last game. I expect a big game from him again.

Unfortunately, I think the team has allowed for the Heatley & Kovalchuk playbook to develop here as well.

A. Come out fast and hard. Get the Oilers on their heels early; both the forward and D lines don't respond well to sustained pressure, but the D core is particularly suspect. Don't give them room to operate and they will make a mistake.
B. You need to capitalize on that mistake to score first. This makes Connor and Leon take more chances when they are on the ice, opening up opportunities to counter.
C. Make sure you take advantage of those counter opportunities, because they will come.
D. If the Oilers seem to be building some momentum, just swamp them with a good possession shift in their end and the team will wilt again. This team doesn't have a will to fight past the top two lines..

I swear this is the game plan for every team that comes into our barn, and has been for a decade.

No problem with Nygard up, Archi hasn't brought much of anything so far, he was way more effective last season, forecheck, hits, cycle.. been invisible so far.. he's probably where he should be.. long term I'd rather have Ennis up than Nygard. Turris/Pulju needed some help. Turris has been a bit of a dissappointment for me so far, not noticing him much out there offensively, although he has done a decent job on the PK.. was hoping for more.. as I did for the whole team.. same old same old.. Nuge has looked pretty passive as well, he was looking like an older verson of Yamo on the forecheck & cycle for parts of last year.. he's got some points but not very effective, no energy.

3rd line is interesting to me. Nygard - Turris - JP.

Another game with Khaira out.

From what I remember about Lagger is he plays decent position, not a puck carrier, but can break up a cycle, clears the front of the net, might be a good match for Montreal. It'll be interesting to see what he does vs a good NHL team. Oilers need to find out about this guy this year, D ranks getting crowded next year.
KK/Nurse will be 1st pair.. worried about Barrie and KR vs heavy lines..

Make sure someone tells McD, Nuge and several others what time the game is tonight. They must have thought the game was at 8 on Saturday because not very many showed up for the 5pm start.

From what I remember about Lagger is he plays decent position, not a puck carrier, but can break up a cycle, clears the front of the net, might be a good match for Montreal. It'll b einteresting to see what he does vs a god NHL team. Oilers need to find out about this guy this year, D ranks getting crowded next year.
KK/Nurse will be 1st pair.. worried about Barrie and KR vs heavy lines..

I wouldn’t quite go that far re: The Habs icon_wink

NOOOO!!!!

Jake Allen. One of many that sucks except when he plays the Oilers.

Ok so a loss tonight will really kickstart the annual meltdown only 4 games in.

They say in a normal season that if you're out at the end of Nov, your chances to make it are minuscule. That's ~28 games into the season.

We're losing 26 games of the year with the shortened season. So game 4 is like game 30.

I think this all checks out to allow a full freakout with a loss tonight :)

Definitely an optimistic way to look at it. By % of games in the season left, rather than the actual amount of remaining games to try to make up ground.

Suppose you can say you need that first ~33% of the year to get a solid idea that a team is bad. But...do we really need that? :P

I'm on record stating that we can win any game where we score 6 goals. So far that's 100% accurate.

I am not freaking out only because this team is EXACTLY what I expected so far. The holes that many identified are still a problem.

I am curious to see how the points race plays out and how soon a team is realistically out of it even if the math doesnt say so.
The combination of short season and every game being a division game could cause some interesting scenarios. It is always sucks to be chasing teams if a 3 point game happens but every single game that goes to overtime makes it harder to catch up.
