2 3rd period lead chokes in 2 days. Just the Oilers way.

Typical! why did Chaison take that draw instead of Nuge? Russel deaked out of his hockey pants on that one.

Definitely a recipe for success for a team who ‘believes in themselves’ to make the playoffs.

In fairness to Hall, I've wanted to throw a waterbottle at Eakins all season.

Yeah, blowing the lead is real problem. Getting two points are a short eastern road trip is ok, but they should have won both games this weekend. Two more points right now would look a lot better.

This is fine.

It's OK, Klefbom will be back soon and then look out! He brings a ton of character.

Blown leads aside, it’s a split against a couple decent teams. 2 more points they didn’t get before the break confused2

I guess having 3rd period leads in back to back games, and coming away with a single point in each game IS better than blowing said leads while not obtaining a single point in either game. Glass (of crappy Edmonton water) half full!

FWIW, I’ve been to Edmonton and area countless times. I have always enjoyed the water. I’d argue I enjoy tap water from the in-laws more than from my own house.

I mean... Koskinen should of had that one covered up before the shot that went in (to tie the game). But his defenders also didn’t box out the attackers well enough as they forced Koskinen to not be able to cover it up.

That’s as much on the d to me.

Hitch clearly wants this team to bottle up and try to run out the clock with leads. It's Todd all over again. He thinks that 3rd was good? Team did crap all. This isn't a hang back and try to grind out everything league anymore. Too many fast skilled players, too much chaos, too many opportunities for bad bounces and mistakes to happen.

This org badly needs a reset. Nicholson damn well better find the right people for POHO and GM that understand what this league has become.

Didn't think Koskinen had his best game but it wasn't bad either. Any goalie playing behind that leaky, mistake riddled defence is going to be facing good quality scoring chances a lot and sometimes you're just not lucky. I agree that trying to sit on a one goal lead is a mistake, they can't even do it with a 2 goal lead and just are not good and quick enough. So many mistakes in their own zone where they can't clear the puck or make an outlet pass. If Hitch thinks that was a good period we're in for a long 30 games.

Just realized, I’m 0-2 on my bold prognostications. Gonna have to either dial back the bold’o’metre or I’ll keep treading water.

It is just like the Oilers. They arent 24th overall and tracking for another well below good season, they are 2 wins out of a playoff spot.

Ah .. but first you have to chop wood, I haven't seen many axes being wielded out there except for a few of guys. We need a few Husqvarna's out there.

McD, RNH, carrying the team.. Khaira, Kassian, Nurse, Pulju, Russell playing well, ... LD playing at 60% of his ability too much loopy fore-checks, standing still with the puck while he waits to get checked (used to work in junior, not in the NHL bud!) then makes a crap pass with the inevitable cough up, that guy needs to be better, doesn't help that he has Reider on his line, Mr. Non-factor, but he has to get better for this team to succeed.

Freaking LD. 2 on zero with the greatest player in the world and he finds a way to nullify it.

Also, in case you were still wondering about if there is an anti-Edmonton refereeing bias, just watch that game, the BS "embellishment" call on LD when he was going up on a 2 on 1, the ghost call on Russell just before that, the "interference" call on LD when he shouldered Byron in front of the net, and the 3 or 4 non-calls on McD, one of which the guy hooked the stick right out of his hands, oh and when Larsson gets his stick pulled out of his hands. .. list goes on. brutal.

Rieder, passenger of the game, he'll be lucky to get a PTO somewhere next year. If the Oilers need some cap room to bring back the Sekera, trade him for a pick.

Have also seen almost nothing out of Reider that would make me want the Oilers to keep him around and that's a pretty big sample size at game 52. He either doesn't have it in him anymore or he's just content to collect his inflated pay checks. You'd think there would be a better trio to put out there after Batman and Robin in the overtime but.....I guess the drop off really is that steep.

I think Rattie, Khaira or Kassian might have been a better choice, they can at least skate, better than Chaisson.. but yeah .. pretty freaking thin group of forwards.. and our D? Benning, Gravel, Manning, Larsson, all too slow for 3 on 3... actually just typing those names made me sad...

Absolutely. It’s really a waiting game till Klefbom is back so that they can put him back with 97/29 and have Darnell with Nuge and who else for the time killer so 97/29 can catch their breath.

Even a 60% Sekera might be better than our current bottom 3 .. on second thought .. scratch that.. he'll probably be 40% when he comes back...

40% Sek may still be better than some...

Pretty incredible that this team has degraded to the point where you're hard-pressed to come up with who should be the fourth forward on the ice during overtime, and your second powerplay unit doesn't have a guy with more than five goals on it 50+ games in to the season. For crying out loud, Zack Kassian, despite a pretty rough campaign overall is currently 5th in goals on the team with 6...And it's looking unlikely we'll have more than 5 or 6 guys with double digits at the end of the year.

This weekend has to be seen as a disaster for the Oilers. I know people like to throw out the cliche about going .500 on the road, but since the invention of the Bettman point, that's not really accurate. If you take only half the points, you're losing ground. These were two winnable games that the team was in a position to win, and they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. The next ten days probably decides the management's direction for this season - and after this, it's hard to feel that the team is going to be able to really challenge for a post-season berth...

First off... you're 1000% spot on, my friend. Yeah, they got 2 of 4 points, .500 in terms of points. But they HAD THE LEAD in the third period in BOTH games! They LOST both, LOST both games. The weekend was a disaster. We entered the weekend 3 points back... we're still 3 points back. What was the term, treading water?

Ha. You know what... Kassian also has some wheels. I get the Chiasson play because of his goal output this year, but would Kassian be THAT bad of an OT play in comparison?? He can skate... he can play defence pretty well (he IS one of our better PKers) and he CAN create a little offence.

You know who is an Oiler and can do some things on the big European ice? JP. 3v3 opens a lot of ice... Using my forward pairs from a post in the GDT, why not have 97/29 as your OT1, 93/98 as your OT2?

Sigh. Here's to a sober Monday leading to another (likely) high on Tuesday leading up to the game only to (again) come crashing down in the disappointment rocket that has about as much oomph as a Gene Principe monologue. I hope Keith makes a move soon so my focus can be turned away from the lack of finish this current team has (outside of the big 3).

Also, we need Klefbom. #PrayForKlefbom

Absence made me miss Russell but now I see it was truly just how bad the rest of the D is and not him being good.

He has been terrible the last two games. Allowing constant uncontested zone entries and often screening his own goalie.

I missed him too... and would argue the same thing. Though, I must admit, I had always thought the Nurse-Russell pair wasn’t terrible.

I wonder how season tickets are going to be after this season? Connor is really the only one to see but the rest just zap your zest for life.

I watched both games and thought the team actually played well, but the gaffe by Russel (times 2) seem to really seal it for how bad our defensive positioning is.

We have Yawney and Gulutzan and looking at them they have seen this too many times by knowing the expression on their faces that the team just doesn't have that gear.

Stick a fork in 'em and that's not being negative it's just the world that exists before our eyes.

The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.

Generally Disappointed.
