Henrik Zetterberg’s career is over due to his back condition, GM Ken Holland announced today. #RedWings

Zetterberg made 7M last year. His salary drops to 3.35M this year and 1M the next 2. Yeah, that would probably make my back hurt too if I was him.

"The Edmonton Oilers are not where they should be right now and that is unacceptable. We need to get better immediately. That starts today"
-Kevin Lowe, April 2013

"Next year (15/16) I would forecast as another developmental year"
- #2, April 2015

Strangely he suffers from the same rare allergy to working for cheap that impacts Hossa. The bush league thing is that this is now an allowed practice for getting out of ill-advised deals that constrict cap space...

...no need to worry about any fraudulent activity by the Red Wings or Zetterberg...Bill Daly is on it....

While these annoy me slightly, it makes it more likely that Lucic will be able to retire with a sore elbow without it affecting our cap situation one of these years.

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

One thing I've learned in life, is that doctors are cheap.

2015/2016 - This Kool-Aid tastes like McDavid flavoured Drain-O.
2016/2017 - This Kool-Aid is starting to taste like juice.
2017/2018 - I'm drinking this Kool-Aid, in hopes that it's Drain-O.
2018/2019 - Another round of Drain-O, good sir!

Do you really think that the Oilers are going to find the loophole? Were we the only team that had to surrender picks for coaches & GMs in the end?

I think there's a decent chance. Ference was running marathons with a "bad hip".

But I didn't think we had much cap relief with Ference. I thought they avoided LTIR-ing him most of the year because of the negative impacts that could have with the performance bonuses they were paying Draisaitl & McDavid...

It wasn't like New Jersey magically getting out from under the Kovalchuk contract.

In no way do I think we have a New Jersey level of management competence. I'm just saying that the more precedent for aging players with bad deals retiring without consequence, the more likely it'll happen here too.
