No Cups

Any game against the team from down the road is more than just a must win game. Let's beat them on the score sheet, beat them in penalty minutes, as we beat them to a pulp. Let's damage the play off hopes, and at least make this sorry season have something to remember it by.

Flames just got a tongue lashing from their coach, they're desperate to win to keep playoff hopes alive and their more than overdue for a win over the sad sack Oilers. I see a Flames win tonight, and I don't think it will be pretty. Prove me wrong Oilers!

Hopefully this time is different.

Coach can only play that card so many times. Let's hope it's start of the collapse and the downward spiral of mediocrity for the them. And I mean that in the most vindictive, sore loser kind of way.

The thing is the Flames special teams are terrible. Not Oilers bad but pretty bad and they are 4-5-1 in the last 10. I really doubt this is the first time the coach gave the team a tongue lashing in the last 10 games. This is probably just the first time it got caught on camera because they were mailing it in at practice after they tanked another game.

The way I look at it is the Oilers team are different than the previous teams that would mail it in when they were out of the playoffs like the Hall lead teams. This team was supposed to just make the playoffs, they were a favorite to WIN the cup. I believe there is an extreme level of embarrassment and a want to finish strong. McDavid and what he has done over the last month and a half shows me how competitive he is and to me looks like an extremely motivated guy who wants to win the scoring title again because he wants to cement himself as the best player in the world and even though they are out of the playoffs, wants to prove that his team is not garbage. They had a bad year but they will be back. The Oilers have a goalie in Talbot who was lousy for most of the year. He was 4th in vezina voting last year. To have a season like this has to be a HUGE shot to the ego. There are people wondering if he last year was a fluke. So I see a pretty motivated Talbot who looks to have finally found his game as he as been more Talbot like the last few weeks. I have to think Talbot will want to finish extremely strong to prove he's the man.

Everyone is freaking out in Calgary. I listen to Calgary sports radio, its UGLY. You have the media all over you, the coach is throwing tantrums. The team in interviews is questioning itself. They have ALL the pressure on them and the Oilers are in their head.

Well despite this being a BOA, there's really no pressure on the Oilers and plenty on the Flames. Oilers win, great! Oilers lose, meh add it to the pile of losses cause it really doesn't matter. Flames win, BIG momentum booster, Flames lose huge mental blow.

The Flames are also in the race for a playoff spot, so every point matters at this point, and they can ill-afford to lose any.

I think the Flames bottom 6 is pretty weak and they are thin in the top 6. So losing Tkachuk is a huge loss.

I think you're forgetting Sammy Slewfoot Bennett.

I know he's kind of a no-name nothing player aside from the slew footing. In case you need a review on who he is, here:

Monahan and Backlund missed practice for "maintenance". Means they are banged up.

Anyone remember when there was hardcore Oilers fans actually making the case and being pissed off the Oilers picked Leon over Bennett. Leon will get over 70 pts this year again and would be a #1 center on most teams. Bennett might be lucky to get 30 pts and is a 3rd liner. icon_lol

Thank god the Oilers at least did one thing right and didn't touch Bennett.
