Good pick by Strome and great follow up by Khaira in that one! No McPoint though...

Forget McPoints. It's all about the Lucic goal!

JJ needed to find a way to pass that to Lucic. Not a team player.

lol, that's how Lucic scores all his goals now. Shots from 30-40 ft out. Just don't expect those to come too often.

The Smytty special! But you’ll notice it hasn’t stopped him from chopping every puck he’s touched since in to a square.

When Lucic scored my wife said, “oh is he that guy?” Playing dumb I say “what guy?”

“Oh the one that hasn’t scored in almost 30 games.” My jaw hit the floor. Even she knew how bad it was. That’s not a good look.

See the coach leaning in and talking to Lucic?

Likely telling him to be ready for some 3 on 3 if this thing is knotted up after 3.

Spector priming fans for the Nuge for a D trade annoys me to no end.

Then Debrusk compares him to Bergeron. No way a contending team would need one of those...

He seemed to be turning into the 2 way C the team needs and now they are going to trade him (I assume)

I am annoyed but not mad as I have already prepared myself for the underwhelming return that the team gets back.

The thing that worries me about Spector and Rishaug is that they're possibly signalling what management wants them to. I could see the Oilers believing they HAVE to trade Nugent-Hopkins now, just as they felt they needed to deal Eberle last summer. They may be floating trial balloons on Nuge, to pave the way for the deal - especially given that it's likely to be a disappointing deal as the management is not good at this sort of thing.

I sure don't look forward to hearing management/media guys starting rumours about #93's attitude or work ethic next year after the underwhelming deal though...

Speaking of Spector, his latest article is a tour-de-force.

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/oilers-larsson-ready-ret urn-wake-fathers-death/?utm_content=bufferdad36&utm_medi um=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

He starts with his obligatory shot at Oscar Klefbom (I'm 100% convinced the Oilers will trade Klef this summer, likely for a 3rd liner with a career high of 13 goals).

Quote:

His partner from last season, Oscar Klefbom, has been a disaster from start to finish, though he scored the overtime winner in a 4-3 win over Arizona last night, Klefbom’s first goal in 33 games.

Then he drops this gem:

Quote:

Klefbom’s erratic play has left Larsson struggling to do more than he is capable of. He is still a plus player — truly a feat on this Oilers club — but as Hall stretches his personal points streak to 25 games, the deal struck by Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli appears more and more ridiculous.

Keep in mind that Spector wrote an article titled, "Adam Larsson’s Oilers prevail in game Taylor Hall’s never could have", less than 1-year ago.

That article included this, now famous, line:

Quote:

The stats geeks still hate the Hall trade. The reason? Because their craft isn’t far enough along at this point to quantify the qualities in Larsson’s game that makes Edmonton better.

Conduct a poll of 200 hockey men, and it might be unanimous: Edmonton got what it needed in that deal, and giving up Hall was well worth it.

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/adam-larssons-oilers-pre vail-game-taylor-halls-never/

And now, all of a sudden, Spector is trying to peddle the idea that he knew the Hall/Larsson trade was a bad one for the Oilers all along.

But probably the most distasteful piece of Spector's latest piece, is that it's (on the surface at least) a human interest story about Larsson dealing with the premature passing of his father. And that's where he should have left it. This is where the MSM is at their best, and where their access can really add value. Why even bring up the Hall trade in that article, especially if you're going to take a backhanded shot at the trade and call it "ridiculous"?

Wins in a row the Oilers need to get to playoff pace: infinity
games!!

Just in case those ones weren't enough:

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/devils-hall-thriving-sta bility-never-oilers/

Quote:

There were plenty of intangibles around the Taylor Hall-for-Adam Larsson trade, all of which seem so inconsequential, so inconceivable right now.

Hall was too big a presence in the Edmonton dressing room. He didn’t have the vision to play with Connor McDavid. He’d never figure out how to be defensively responsible.

What a load all of that turned out to be.

In reality, Hall served his bit with a dysfunctional organization whose own ineptitude landed him there in the first place, as the No. 1 pick in the 2010 NHL Draft. The new player couldn’t change the old issues in Edmonton, and when management changed over (again) they decided that changing the culture would include changing out the superstar left-winger, whose dynamic game now graces the ice in Newark.

He's taking a few potshots at Chia...I do wonder if Chia isn't on the hot seat, as that's pretty bold for Spector.

haha. Nice comedy show in our end.

We might just tank this one yet.

I think they said his first goal in 70 games.
Tanking Slumpbusters should be the unofficial nickname of this team

Are there any stats pertaining to the colour of a teams jerseys? I remember with Fleury’s old yellow pads that he ditched them after an optomotrist said yellow is the colour that the human eye recognizes faster. Just spitballing, but perhaps the Orange allows shooters to pick up Talbot’s body positioning faster?

Black must be Talbot’s Achilles heel.
