Yotes have been on fire of late, 7-2-1 in their last 10.

HOWEVER. I'm going to go with a bold prediction... 5-2 Oilers, Lucic nets a pair. Yep. Book it.

2016: We need to get heavier, and we need a defenseman!

2018: We need to get faster, and we need a defenseman!

You must have started drinking way early today! Lucic with a pair of penalities, no points and Yote's win 4-1 one of them an empty netter.

It has to happen eventually, no?

I will neither confirm nor deny the amount of Beileys in my coffee...

I hope you're right. I'm at the game tonight, so it would be nice if they don't stink the joint out.

Monday night versus a terrible team with the Oilers struggling? Makes for a cheap night from Stubhub as all the poor Tier I fans look desperately to dump their tickets!

Basically the cost of a Bobby Nick Burger. Nice.

Hard to say which item is a better value right now, watching 2+ hours of Oilers hockey or a bacon cheeseburger.

In March... for next season? Like the Oilers are doing?

Seriously though, this team should be so good next season. They've got McDavid and a newish building and a whole summer to fix what needs to be tweaked.

Define "original plan". I think we're onto the fourth grand plan or the 9th plan that includes significant adjustments. Since 06. If you include the entire Lowe era (aka: lost generation) I've got the count at 6 grand plans.

Come on guys, there is no such thing as a plan, so quit complaining and start evaluating. That's what you need to do: evaluate. All the cool burger flipping kids are doing it. E.V.A.L.U.A.T.E.

Did someone mention that Bobby Nicks is "evaluating" again?

Oh yeah, he did.

Evaluate.

Hey, if Bob Nicholson and Wayne Gretzky (WAYNE GRETZKY!!!) believe in the plan, why shouldn't we all?

Sucker.. there is no plan...the original plan failed ... but they're working on a new one.. it's coming .. believe it!

That's what you think! Listening to Oilers Lunch today, and Bob Stauffer was comparing Pontus Aberg to William Karlsson. He's a year younger, so if that comparison bears fruit, then we should have another point per game player next year at this time!

Of course, here is their NHL stats to age 24:

Karlsson 183GP - 18-32-50
Aberg 53GP - 3-8-11

And here's their AHL stats:

Karlsson 61GP - 10-23-33 (only one season at age 22, plus 9 games at 21)
Aberg 203GP - 76-56-132

And in the SuperElit league in Sweden:

Karlsson 44GP - 20-35-55
Aberg 61GP - 18-23-41

Those don't look to me like comparable players, but then I'm not an Oilers insider...

They're a highly motivated group...

I'm going to say a loss with 2 goals against, both goals bouncing off Lucic and in our own net.

The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.

going to the game tonight as well. Hoping for a better outcome than the previous 2 games I've attended this year.....

Jan 3rd vs LA lost 5-0
Jan 23rd vs Buffalo lost 5-0

Compared to the scores above.....I will be happy just to hear the horn and stand and clap if the Oilers score 1 goal lol.

I would really like it if the Oilers for the remainder of the season put together a top 6 of this and run with it for the rest of the year no matter what.

Nuge - McDavid - Puljujarvi/Slep
Lucic - Leon - Puljujarvy/Slep

My reasoning:
- I have said it and I think most believe that the Oilers 2 best centers are McDavid and Leon. So run with it no matter what. Your GM is paying him to be the #2, so play in the #2 spot and stop putting him on McDavid's wing. He doesn't need McDavid to score, we have seen it.
- Lucic can't keep up with McDavid, it's obvious. But he is locked in here and isn't going anywhere. We need him to produce. Leon is a fast player as well but not McDavid fast and he plays a heavier game which would suit Lucic better. Stick them together, let them develop chemistry.
- We all think that they need a winger to play with McDavid. That winger needs to be fast, have good skill, be able to shoot and have a good head for the game. Nuge at 6 mill can't be on the 3rd line. He's also fast, has a good shot, good head for the game. Seems to be a good fit for a winger for McDavid. He's the 3rd best center on the team. So why not play him with McDavid for the rest of the year and see if you have the McDavid's winger in house rather than spending assets to get one. You would tick off 2 things that need to happen. Find a winger and find a place to play Nuge.
- If you have a high end winger with McDavid, the other side can be a cheap option. That guy needs to be fast, be able to shoot and go get pucks, maybe screen the goalie. But if you have a good winger in Nuge, you don't have to count on him to be the shooter. Slep has shown lately he can play with McDavid to a degree. Slep is a good skater, has good size, not afraid to go in the corners, has a good shot and has been frustrated by his role and lack of playing time. It's up in the air what Slep will be and if he is a full time NHLer or not. So find out. Play him with McDavid for the rest of the year. Show him the organization believes in him and find out what you have. Put the onus on him to show you what he has. If he makes a mistake, send him back out. But find out what you have. Maybe he can be a complimentary top 6 guy, maybe he is a bottom 6 guy, maybe he is nothing at all but find out. Playing him on the 4th line or healthy scratching him doesn't help you.
- If you are putting Lucic on Leon's wing, he need a shooter. The logical guy for me is Puljujarvi. He's big, can skate, has an awesome shot. Have him firing bullets at the net with Lucic standing in front to screen and clean up the garbage. Plus it would be a big, heavy line that still has speed and skill. Put Puljujarvi in a position to succeed. You need to see what he can do.

So I would role with those 2 lines as my top 6 for the rest of the year and leave them alone. If the young guys struggle, stick with it. The season is lost but at least find out what you have. Changes need to happen but if you can eliminate some big ticket items, i.e a winger for McDavid you can focus on other things. If McLellan won't do it, then I think the GM needs to come down and make it happen.

Only one problem with your proposal. We all know that if a line doesn't score 2 or 3 goals within a shift or two it'll never work so you need to go back to McDavid/Draisatl.

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

Our media just can't help themselves eh?

Probably seen that video some gimps put online of them heckling McDavid and his parents outside a restaurant (McDavid and his family don't even really acknowledge them).

Ok, probably happens a lot, just no one feels the need to upload their lame heckles onto the internet.

But, of course our media is wasting McLellan's and McDavid's time by asking them questions about it.

Good job giving loads of attention to these goofs and making it a topic for McLellan and McDavid to have to discuss Oilers media!

Why heckle McDavid?? Seriously. Of all the players, McDavid was heckled?? I haven't seen/heard anything on this... but if I was out with buddies, or family or anyone really, and we saw McDavid to which someone I was with startled heckling him I would take a round out of the guy who heckled. Seriously. What the heck. It's clear that Connor is the problem this season... he's 6 points back in the Hart race... should be leading it. C'mon man. What is wrong with people!??!

Hey our coach did call out Connor earlier this season....
I would guess they are not Oilers fans (Toronto fans as they expected him to sign there or will sign there at his early possible moment), or they are just ignorant fans.

Oilers lines based on Gregor's Oilersnation article.

Lucic-McDavid-Draisaitl
Cammalleri-RNH-Aberg
Puljujarvi-Strome-Slepyshev
Caggiula-Khaira-Pakarinen

Nurse-Russell
Klefbom-Bear
Sekera-Benning

So basically everything I said the Oilers should do for the lines, they aren't.

Lucic with McDavid isn't a good match but McLellan does it again. Lucic is a much better match with Leon at center as Leon can play a bigger, heavier game that would suit Lucic much better.

Leon on McDavid's wing. Wasting your second best center so he can play on the wing. Plus you are putting all your eggs in one basket and weaken the lines as a whole as your have your 3rd best center as your second line center.

RNH at center AGAIN. As I said, as much as I love Nuge, he's your teams 3rd best center. You are searching for a winger who has speed and hockey sense. So why the hell wouldn't you play Nuge on the wing? In a lost season, now is the time to try it. What possible harm can it do?

A new frustration. Cammalleri playing on your second line. Why the hell are you as a coach playing a 35 yr old no future on your team AHEAD of anyone.

Yes, I love this Cammel top 6 thing that keeps happening. But, Mclellan did say the other day that Cammel was still learning lessons, like his bad attempt at an open net with the goalie pulled. I guess he figures we haven't seen the full scope of what Cammel will become in the NHL yet.

Maybe McLellan really believes the team needs Cammalleri back next year and figures the only way to ensure that is to prove that he belongs by getting him some points in the top-six?

Of course, Cammalleri has gone one game more than Lucic without scoring...

Actually pretty amazing that in your top six wingers you have one center, two wingers who haven't scored in 29 and 30 games and then the next William Karlsson - except one who's only scored 3 goals in his 55 game NHL career.

For those keeping score, here's the goal totals for the the three third line players (who've all been mostly wingers) since Lucic last scored Dec. 23: Puljujarvi - 4, Strome - 5, Slepyshev - 4. On the fourth line, Caggiula's matched Aberg's career production with 3 since Dec. 23. Kassian has four and Khaira (who's also played some wing this year) has four. Maybe McLellan IS trying to tank after all?

Also, the team now has a third line made up entirely of right shots, while the first and second line both comprised entirely with left-shooters. Khaira is the only one in the bottom six who shoots left, so apparently that balance that we desperately needed a couple years ago is out the window.

Baffling.

I love that right shot left shot thing.

Are we sure that McLellan isn't looking at the chance to collect 6M from the Oilers org over the next 2 years while relaxing on a beach, and going all in to make it happen? I can't see how that wouldn't be super enticing.

I try to be positive and to try and see the bright side especially when it comes to my sports teams. So in a lost season where nothing has gone right and they have far under performed, use this season to salvage SOMETHING. So use these last games to test guys, to find out what these guys can do. So then your GM can see what they have and hopefully make some decisions. I am starting to really believe that there is a disconnect between McLellan and Chia. We can bash Chia all we want for some of his decisions but I can't for a second think he is loving seeing Cammalleri in a top 6 role. What's to evaluate when it comes to Callalleri? NOTHING. He's a 35 yr old declining player. Has he been OK with the Oilers. Yes but there isn't any hidden potential.

Of course, he didn't trade him at the deadline and said he didn't even TRY to trade him. Maybe he also wants Cammalleri back next year? Maybe he's the new Hendricks?

New Hendricks, except he doesn’t play physical. Maybe a better comparison is the new Letestu? Naw, he doesn’t take faceoffs or play on the top powerplay. Hmm... maybe he’s the new Benoit Pouliot? Sign him to a big contract and make him a prime buyout candidate.

2016: We need to get heavier, and we need a defenseman!

2018: We need to get faster, and we need a defenseman!
