I vote we take these guys lightly and allow some early goals, then make it close later in the game. Either overtime loss or regulation loss, i'll leave that up to Coach Todd.

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

Ever wonder what relegation in the NHL would look like?

Tonight begins a 5 game win streak where we all jump back on the wagon following the 5th win, a win against the Flames heading into the all star break.

Phoenix, Vegas, Vancouver, Buffalo, Calgary.

Say what you will about Vegas, heck they are playing good hockey, but the Oilers got up to play them back in November. They could take another one from them.

I'm trying to be positive... trying.

Playoffs are done but it would be cool if they won an occasional game.

I like where your head's at. We didn't bother with the January predictions thread, so I didn't notice how butter soft the January schedule is. It's possible....

Playoffs are done in my mind, it will take a miracle. I am at the point where I just want to see the team just play consistent hockey. I would like to see them figure some things. Figure out a PK system where the guys can understand it and execute it consistently. Maybe try some different guys on the PK so for next season, you can hit the ground running. You aren't starting from square one with the PK and if you find out you are lacking the right personnel, then you know exactly what kind of player you need to get. Same goes for the PP. The PP isn't working, either the system isn't working, the guys are in the wrong spots or they aren't executing it correctly. So try some different guys on the PP, move some of the current guys you count on - McDavid, Leon, Nuge - into different spots, tweak the system. Maybe McDavid on the half wall isn't the best spot for him despite what he or your first instincts say. The season is basically lost but at least try and salvage something usable out of it.

Wish they would but I'm betting they keep grinding away with the same old crap trying to prove it was the players "lack of proper execution"

You are probably right. Fingers crossed that isn't the case but I doubt it.

This is a great post, get MUST WIN tonight and shock Vegas again. In my sick twisted mind if they lost the next 4 and just beat Calgary I would be satisfied.

In reality, the only thing left for us this season is to knock Calgary out of the playoffs. Vancouver is already toast.

What are you talking about? Big things at stake here. Let me remind you about Eakins' final season - Coyotes go 4-0 against the Oilers on the back of strong play from Devan Dubnyk - it costs them big-time and they finish behind the Sabres in the McDavid/Eichel race...leaving them with Ryan Strome.

Today's stats:

McDavid - 171 GP 61-135-194
Eichel - 186 GP 66-88-154
Strome - 18 GP 1-1-2

This is the kind of game franchises' fortunes get determined by!

I think that Strome kid just needs to play on McDavid's wing. Nuge for younger Strome?

How about "Baby" Josh Ho-Sang? He was a healthy scratch in for Bridgeport. He's good buddies with Connor.

Maybe we can send them Ryan Strome, he can replace Ho-Sang in the AHL.

Now that it is as far from possible as is possible, I predict the Oilers to go on a 70% winning run between now and spring but end up falling just short of the playoffs.

I'm saying this sarcastically but also not...I think this team is talented and if they could just fire a couple of assistant coaches and let the players coach the PP and PK, we would be a team.

That said, it will all be just to toy with my emotions and we will be left on the outside looking in.

Thought this was interesting, from oilersnation.com

. I mentioned earlier that the Coyotes are bad. They’re extremely bad, actually. Is there anything the Coyotes do well? Uhhhhhh, not really. They rank 30th in the league in goals with 98 and 29th in the league in goals against with 150. The Coyotes are getting hosed at even strength as they rank 28th in the league in shot attempt differential and 31st in goal differential. Their special teams are slightly better, though, as the team has the league’s 20th best power play and 17th best penalty kill.

. Arizona’s special teams are still better than Edmonton’s, though. The Oilers rank 26th with a 15.97 power play percentage, while they sit dead last with a historically bad 71.43 penalty kill percentage. Thankfully for the Oilers, they’re a relatively disciplined team and sit in the middle of the league with 140 power play opportunities against. Oddly enough considering the skill on their roster, Edmonton has only been given 119 power play opportunities, the second fewest in the league.
