Attach a white towel to a stick and wave above his head?

Not there has been any REAL doubt for a while but this team is closer to top 5 lottery than the playoffs

Not sure there is anything Todd can do at this point. A chew out would probably just help the players tune him out even more.

Seppuku? More seriously, will he get another NHL job after he is fired part-way through next season?

There are so many coaching specific things to point at this season to suggest he won't. Historically bad PK, totally inept 1st PP unit with Letestu glued to it, lack of preparation for almost every game. His general love for turning every game situation into a grind against how the rest of the league is moving.

Might be hard for him for a while.

No biggie though, if he plays this all right, he can make 3M/year for the next 2 years to enjoy life and go on vacation.

Well, we have to decide whether the head coach is instrumental in the team's success in-game.... or in this case, failure. If there's another level of tuneout, that's scary. I just don't know what's to be lost. It's a tactic we haven't seen, and nothing else works. Use the tools available. By the time the hook comes out, It's too late. Hey, at least Todd isn't calling out individual players anymore.

I think all of Todd's energy is now being spent on trying to figure out how to keep Letestu on the 1st PP unit. He had him as the net front presence today.

He said in his interview on the athletic that he has been watching a lot of Oilers and Flames games from his farm.

Ouch. Little story about the players and specifically McDavid praising Russell and what a warrior he is. Couple mins later he gets owned for another goal against. Of course he wasn't the only culprit, but the coincidence was...entertaining at least.

I'd like a combination choice, there are a number of choices available for whipping boy this year.

I agree - although I think if McLellan goes, that automatically takes the assistants, and if Chiarelli goes, McLellan is likely gone too.

Injuries. All of the coaching staff returns, as does the current management team.

That's Oesterle's 3rd goal and 8th point in 16 games this season. Here's the Oilers scoring by defence:

Kris Russell - 42 GP 3-13 -16
Darnell Nurse - 42 GP 2-11-13
Oscar Klefbom - 38 GP 3-7-10
Matt Benning - 38 GP 4-5-9
Yohann Auvitu - 19 GP 2-3-5
Adam Larsson - 34 GP 3-1-4
Eric Gryba - 21 GP 0-2-2
Brandon Davidson - 10 GP 0-1-1
Andrej Sekera - 8 GP 0-1-1

So Oesterle, who the Oilers should have known intimately and who left because there was no room because the Oilers signed both Gryba and Russell before the free agency period began, has scored as many or more goals than any Oiler but Matt Benning, and has a better points per game rate than any defenceman in the organization.

Amazing.

Turns out we are good at developing talent after all; we just let them walk / trade them. Petry, Oesterle, Dubnyk, Rieder, Pitlick, Chorney.

On the flip side, we brought in young players like: Reinhart, Teubert, Pinizzotto, Kessy

Hall, Eberle, Yakupov, Paajarvi, Cogliano, Gagner...

Not all are star players, but all are NHLers who could have been useful, and pretty much all more useful than what we got for them (other than Paajarvi, as that trade for Perron was great - until they dealt him for Klinkhammer and a draft pick they included to get Reinhart...)

To be fair, Rieder never was even on the AHL team...traded while still an unsigned junior (which is the Oilers defence - he might not have signed with the team before going back in to the draft).

That's early draft talent, which is a whole other ball-game (though it is an equally depressing story). And a quick google tells me Pitlick has 15 points to Strome's 17 this year; Eberle's at 29... my god. If PC did nothing in the offseason, this team would have been better off by a mile.
