Afternoon games the worst, for so many reasons

[Updated on: Sat, 11 November 2017 11:12]

"My wife told me Edmonton was going to win the pick that day," said Gretzky. "That was the day that I retired 16 years ago. So, she said, for whatever reason, the Oilers have good luck today. Connor McDavid went to Edmonton."

Oil seem to have a poor record on day games.

Strome deserves better minutes then playing with Jussi - just terrible.

Why?
Strome hasn't exactly shown he deserves anything. Slow and soft isnt a great way to get minutes with better players.

Another 2 on 1 goal against because guys were not at all paying attention. 100% avoidable super slowly developing play.

You could see it in the celebration.
Great forecheck from the whole line, good pinch from Nurse and exactly the kind of shot I expect from JP.

Gene needs to understand that some players can't do an english interview.

Jesse needs to take some classes. It's been 18 months since you've been drafted.

Oilers take note of what Jesse done - shot the puck. I hope McDavid seen that. Shoot the freaking puck when the opportunity presents itself.

1st line has been struggling bad 5v5. Not really impressed again tonight. Hope they can figure it out. Lots of just playing along the boards. Nuge's line looks much better.

PK again looking clueless. Allow rangers to create a 4 on 2 down low. Klef left to defend 2 guys right in the slot where the puck is and net wide open on that side.

Klef wasn't left alone. Both him and Gryba were up near the top of the circles and the puck wasn't out.
There is blame on the forwards for not clearing it out but there is zero reason for the D to be past the hash marks in that situation. They both should have drifted towards the middle of the ice not up ice at all.
That is on them.

I think he's talking about the first PP goal and you talking about the second.

On the first, Klef was covering his guy down low. It was the higher guy that scored. It was Letestu's guy if anything, but remember somebody has to be uncovered.

On the second, Klef was wandering along the boards close to the face-off dot while Nash was standing right at the post. That one was a bad mistake.

Don't feel like watching the mess again,b ut I think Gryba went chasing a guy out to the blue line and Letestu just stood there and let whatever would happen happen behind him, which ended up being wide open guys shooing at an open net.

It is really sad that we are all likely right in some shape or form, that is how bad the PK is.

PK is good when #6 and #25 are running it, #77 and #83 are killing it.

#77 is killing the team in general, guy is not the sharpest tool in the shed. His coverage on the PK should be shown on TV in black and white, so it will better match his Keystone Cops imitation.

Decided to watch taht 1st PP goal against again. It was a 3 on 1 low, not a 4 on 2. Or a 4 on 1 since Letestu was on the wrong side of the pass to the scorer. Letestu and Kassian were confused trying to figure out what to do. Gryba chased a guy to the blue line and completely took himself out of the play. Klef was left in the middle of a triangle of 3 rangers, and was just paralyzed and Talbot didn't seem interested in trying to move his body either. Just all around garbage. Just all around garbage. Biggest dope was probably Kassian.

Two goals against by Rick Nash in 2017 is unacceptable. The PK being this bad is also unacceptable. Be better.

First off, can’t belive I was so sloshed at 11 am that I was refreshing a pre game thread and thought no one cared and 2nd I agree with this comment I’m sick of the Nash’s and Gaboriks and Stafford’s scoring on Oilers

Selfish, unforced, undisciplined penalties and a crappy PK are not a good combination. Maroon is a veteran, no way he should have a stupid grin on his face when it's pretty much 50/50 the other team is going to score in a big game. I'd demote his ass.

The Oilers PK gets back to normal in this game. Hard to say what they're doing, looks like they're trying to outnumber the puck carrier one guy up high skating miles and miles on the PK to bring pressure, trouble is on the PK if you're trying to hem someone in with 2 guys, you're leaving 2 open....big time gamble that they've been burnt on twice.

My opinion. Nuge is the best Oiler player on a night to night basis thus far this year. McDavid needs to step up his game.

My opinion. Opponents base their game plan and match ups more diligently against McDavid than RNH.

But yeah, I’m really happy with RNH right now. Bodes well.

Much the same teams do against Crosby - Crosby figures it out. McDavid needs to adjust, shoot more, and stop the "skate really fast, stop quick at ash marks and look for pass" move.

What are you talking about? Conner has 18 points in 15 games, Sid had 13 points in 18 games. Conner is doing fine.

I don't really think McDavid's team leading 18 points in 15 games is the problem. His game is what makes him the best player in the world. For reference, Crosby has 13 points in 18 games and is at the bottom of the league with a -14.

Keep doing what you do best McD!

When Peter Chiarelli is fired, Kevin Lowe will be involved in finding a replacement. Fire them all. Bring us REAL change.

If Nuge and Pool party developed some chemistry it would be very good for the Oilers, and would probly save both Lucic and Chia's necks.

Leon definitely not looking like the German Gretzky nor the Deutschland Dangler today in New York.
The top line is gonna cost us the game if Maroon's moronic penalty holds up as the game winner. So weird since that line is usually the reason we win a game.

No one ever thinks to go to the front of the net when McDavid is carrying the puck behind it eh? So many passes to the slot for a wide open net to no one. Such a waste

Please expand on your posts how this is McDavid's fault? When he has had an off game or even period many of have mentioned it.
I am curious what else you think he should be doing each game.

Most nights Draisaitl is one of the hardest working guys on the ice. He is at exactly a PPG and seems to have picked up right where he left off last year.

That top line has many nights been the only reason the team is still in the game.

RNH has been great. Likely the player who has exceeded my expectations the most of all forwards.

"My wife told me Edmonton was going to win the pick that day," said Gretzky. "That was the day that I retired 16 years ago. So, she said, for whatever reason, the Oilers have good luck today. Connor McDavid went to Edmonton."
