The goal of the league isn't to get it right, it's to make money. Stop thinking of the NHL as a league and more of a business and the reffing will make sense. They don't promote Canadian teams in the playoffs cause they already have well established fanbases that will already spend big $$ on the sport. They want to get that in the major US markets. Can't do that as well, if the teams aren't winning.

If you think of the NHL as a multi-national business with 32 branch offices and a head office that is completely removed from day-to-day operations it's very easy to understand how a whole department is a miserable failure.

The conspiracy believe competence. The NHL is not competent.

Incompetence causes randomly bad referee decisions and non-decisions.. last night wasn't random.. that open ice hit on McDavid without the puck was another obvious call that was ignored.. two refs don't miss that.. they both decide not to call it.

Does this mean the NHL needs to call itself Sports Entertainment too?

That's playoffs baby!! This is just how the NHL likes it. It's why there was no call or any discipline from DPOS for Trouba's elbow to Crosby's face. The only bias the NHL has is towards grinders and forcing guys to, "play through a check", in the playoffs. It sucks when you have the best player in the world on your team, but I've given up on the NHL ever changing.

Oilers Goal Differential
17/18: 234 GF / 263 GA (-29)
18/19: 232 GF / 274 GA (-42)
19/20 (82 game pace): 257 GF / 254 GA (+3) in 64 games
2021 (82 game pace):269 GF / 235 GA (+34) after 38 games

The NHL is a bit of a joke isn't it. I think it's the only league where the league is totally cool that once playoffs start, it's open season on the stars of their league, the guys that make them the money and everyone comes to see.

How many thousands of McDavid jerseys are out there now or will be sold in cities all over North America generating huge dollars for the league compared to the what, under 10 Kalivey jersey there might be sold now or in the near future? His parents, maybe a GF/wife a few siblings maybe. But you let that 4th line plug run one of the main faces of the league and revenue drivers.

I suppose the solution would be to stop giving any money to the NHL, their partners, or sponsors until they create a product. y’all with me?
