Oilers deserve about 4 PPs tonight, got one that wasn't discretionary, these refs are not interested in calling this game both ways.. McD will have to drive this wagon home.. Giddy Up! icon_nod

Survivor instinct.

Edit: Not intended to infer defensive shell. Just think Kings are able to kill tonight. Not us.

Where the F was Keith going on that goal? 2 Kings in front and he abandoned Bouchard wandering away from the net.
You would think Keith was the inexperienced rookie on that one.

Who can we trade for to teach Keith how to win?

That was a joke. He was playing wing

To be fair, the forwards on that goal were either flying the zone (Drai and Yamo) or skating leisurely towards their man (McDavid). Lack of defensive commitment resulted in that goal.

McDavid and Drai might learn eventually. You HAVE to play hard at both ends to win in the playoffs.

Fair point. As is often the case there is more than one mistake on a goal.
I just expect more from a vet. One of the first things I teach defensemen when coaching is not to chase AWAY from the net. If the forwards are out of position it is pretty rare that a D man trying to cover by moving out to the blue line ends in a good result. You stay home and try to take away shooting/passing lanes. In your head it should be like a PK. There is no need to over commit and leave opponents alone 6 feet from the net.

These refs are awful tonight. Could not seem more biased.

I don't like our defensive scheme the last couple games. Everyone so deep and just running around. I feel like Woodcroft has out-thought himself a few times in this series with some of his adjustments.

I also could live with a lot less Archibald. He hits, but those hits never turn over the puck.

If the NHL was a real pro sports league these two refs would be investigated, then suspended, can't explain it with just "incompetence".. obvious bias at play here tonight.
NHL rule book has to have the widest range of interpretation permitted of any sport, including pro-wrestling. If the margin of interpretation is so wide, or just the act of making a decision to make a call.. or NOT to make a call is "up to ref" discretion.. then there is no surprise you get refs like this.. I'm sure some get paid off in some manner.. it'd be too easy and low risk not to. Either that, or if a ref just has a dislike for a particular team or player.. the ref is given free rein by the NHL to do whatever he likes.. no accountability or consequences for ruined games.. There should be a review.. like DOPS reviews.. made public.. so the ref can be held to account.. the threat of public embarrassment would be enough to get the refs calling it straight.

Even the NBA reviews ref calls .. during the game.

Bettman's league reffing is like a continuous Monty Python sketch.. complete farce.

Usually I don't like complaining about the officiating and find that everyone thinks their team is hard done by, but seriously, explain that disallowed goal. They blew the whistle before the puck was in, so I think we don't win no matter what the challenge is, but why blow the whistle? They didn't call a penalty. There isn't a stoppage for the goalie falling down. It's just a really bad call by the referee. Quick didn't even fall down due to the contact. He stumbled a second after the contact. Ref should have allowed the play and then reviewed it, rather than blowing the whistle on something that isn't a stoppage.

And then the fact they had four powerplays to our two while they weren't exactly innocent of any fouls. The Smith penalty - absolutely. That crotchety old man made a bonehead decision and should have been penalized. But NOTHING the Kings did other than a blatant high stick crossed the line? And why are some crosschecks fine and others not!? ARGH.

Anyhow, <expletive deleted> those guys. And hopefully we don't see those <expletive deleted> guys again on Saturday.

Quick taking out Yams feet 2-3 feet away from the crease should have been a tripping call on Quick too. Such a dangerous play.

Refs were extra horny for goalie interference calls. So rare to see the goalie interference be called so fast on a goal. Almost always now they let the play happen and leave it to the scored on team to challenge. I doubt they would have given us the goal if we challenged too. Seemed clear minds were made up tonight how stuff would tilt.

Those are the clues that something stinks.. there was no reason to blow the early whistle.. it was like he blew it just to ensure a goal wouldn't count.. refs call can't be challenged once the whistle goes.. play was dead.

What the refs "normally" do is keep the whistle in their pocket.. wait to see what happens after the initial goalie contact (if incidental).. if there's a goal scored and they think goalie interference prevented a stop, then they wave it off.. after.. but if play is allowed to continue and a goal is scored unaffected by the initial contact (goalie has re-set) .. then the goal counts.. which is why they don't "normally" blow the whistle on incidental contact.. that play could have continued.. the goalie re-set.. then a legit goal scored.. and counted. But instead he decided to blow the whistle early, kill the play, and nullify any chance of a goal. Which is not normal.. and fishy.

BTW.. Quick got tripped by Edlers foot.. not Hyman, probably would have won the review.. but couldn't risk the interpretations from NHL HQ.

The Yamo goalie interference was another one.. In the replay I saw.. Quick DIVES face first at the puck on Yamo's stick.. as well as Yamo's feet .. trying a poke check.. causing Yamo to launch in the air over top of Quick.. also, the initial contact was also made outside the crease.. also initiated by Quick.. Yamo was trying to stop.. and may have.. if Quick hadn't taken his feet out.

The call on Smith was also super weak.. AA is clinching Smiths stick between his legs.. trying to piss him off.. wouldn't let it go.. Smith gives him a little nudge to get it free.. If you make that call on Smith then AA should have at least got a call for holding the stick.. or better yet no calls either way.. which normally is what happens.. but apparently not in a SC elimination game.

I love the slow motion of iafallo screaming in pain like his leg was removed.

Yak realizes it’s a pair of gotch and the Must instantly absorbs into his body… Yak wins scoring race in KHL next season.

Oh.. and another thing..

The NHL HQ goalie interference reviews have been so inconsistent, no one seems to know exactly what interference is.. its like spinning a roulette wheel.. teams can't challenge without a real risk of getting a minor..

If the NHL is going to be so inconsistent with goalie interference judgements, then there shouldn't be a penalty for losing a challenge. Instead, teams should get a challenge without risk of a 2 minute minor, a lost challenge should just be the loss of the challenge.. JMHO
