I am hoping the Oilers come out pretty inspired and playing a little guilty tonight after that last game and stomp the Kings. The picture going around twitter is little Ben hugging McD and Ben is the one consoling McD telling him he's got it after the loss. How can they not be fired up after a 5 yr old kid who's fighting for his LIFE feels the need to console McD for losing a hockey game.

I am not sure it will happen but I would like to see Woody tweak the lines to beef up that 3rd line. The Kings are going to do everything they can to try and shut down McD's line and Leon's line so in my opinion, the key to truly exploit the Kings is the 3rd line.

I think McD and Kane are clearly a pair. I think Hyman and Leon are clearly a pair so what I would like to see is:

Kane - McD - Yamo/McLeod
Hyman - Leon - Yamo/McLeod
Foegele/Arch - Nuge - JP
Arch/Foegele - Ryan/Shore - Kassian

Logically considering Hyman is a right shot playing the left, you'd put McLeod on the left, Hyman on the right on Leon's line but if Hyman likes the right and considering McLeod plays center so he should be able to play both sides a bit better in my opinion than a winger, you put him up there.

I move JP down to beef up the 3rd line. Yes I know that all the stats guys say McD scores a little better when JP is on that line but the difference isn't so massive that all of a sudden McD will struggle but the potential impact moving him down to Nuge's line could be MASSIVE. I personally do not think that Nuge has been overly good other than the 3rd period in game 3. Giving him JP could be a boost.

Clearly Woodcroft reads my posts and agrees with them.

Kane - McD- - Yamo
McLeod - Leon - Hyman
Arch - Nuge - JP
Foegele - Ryan - Kassian

Exactly what I suggested. He just created 3 strong lines that have the potential to score in my opinion.

Because he skates fast, hits hard, is aggressive and can kill some penalties? All things that teams value in the playoffs for I don't know.... decades and decades.

Do teams also value getting outplayed badly when a player is on the ice? Because that's what happens when Archibald plays.

He's also played less than 4 minutes on the PK in the playoffs; 1:19/game - good enough for 6th most on the team among forwards, so they're not even really relying on him there.

There's no way, imo, that Archibald should be getting more 5x5 minutes than Ryan McLeod or Derek Ryan.

This seems like a bit of a reach based on what I said. Only read Oilers press releases if you never want to hear anyone disagree with what the team is doing.

Yes, I disagree with Woodcroft (and Holland), on their commitment to Josh Archibald. Beyond all of his off ice baggage, his results on the ice have been bad. It's a weird situation and I don't understand it. Nowhere did I say that I don't think Woodcroft knows what he's doing, but everybody makes mistakes and I think this is a mistake on his part.

I am not deferring to Oilers press releases what so ever. I'm simply giving the benefit of the doubt to the coach that had the Oilers at a .724 winning percentage.

I like the coach, but every coach has blind spots.

Archibald is terrible and has added nothing. He runs around a bit when he's on the ice, but he's been outplayed in every game and basically crushed the utility of his line. I'd be much happier to see him sitting out. Maybe if he'd played all year and he was in great game shape it's a different story, but I would rather see Devin Shore in over him, and that's saying a lot, because I don't have a lot of use for Shore. At least Shore has seen a real bump in his play under Woodcroft. We just haven't seen that at all with Archibald.

Doesn't sound like I'll get my way here tonight though, so hopefully we win despite that mistake.

Fair enough, but hear me out. What if Woodcroft had a .724 win percentage, but the Oilers were still below the Flames and Canucks? I think I'd have some questions for him in that situation. icon_wink

In all seriousness though, the Oilers just got badly outplayed in a game, and Archibald was probably their worst forward, (and really hasn't been good at all in the playoffs). You think there would be zero benefit to maybe switching that guy out for a game and see what another guy can do in that spot? Or go back to 11-7.

Look, I don't want to look like a guy taking up for Archibald. I really don't give a crap if he plays. He's a bottom 6 guy who won't be here in a few months. So if he plays or not, who cares in my opinion. If the Oilers take him out for someone else, great, go for it. I don't think he moves the needle enough in my opinion.

But to your point. The entire team played like trash in game 4. If you think he was the worst, cool. If haven't looked at the numbers but if he was the worst in game 4, cool. The Oilers didn't lose because Archibald played in game 4. They lost because to a man, outside Smith, the entire team sucked. That includes McD, golden boys Nuge and JP, whoever else. The Oilers beat the hell out of the Kings 2 times in a row with Archibald in the line up so there is that too.

If the Oilers are going to win tonight, it won't be because Archibald. It will be because McD's line plays better, Leon's line plays better. Nuge plays way better, JP plays better, the defense core plays better.

Scoring first is hugely important . Force them out of their defensive trap game which we seem to struggle against.

Fortunately this wasn't a problem this year!

I have no feeling for how this game is going to go. It seemed like they needed to be reminded of the difficulty playoff hockey presents twice in four games. I would like to think they won't need to relearn that lesson in consecutive games, but with the Oilers... I don't believe until I see it.

Yeah - I really like these lines too. Hopefully McLeod's blazing speed can help the Drai line draw some more calls.

In my opinion, the benefit of having 2 nuclear weapons like McD and Leon is because they are so good, you shouldn't have to have ALL your best forwards with them to score. They still have some real good forwards with those 2 but dropping JP just made your 3rd line a lot better in my opinion. Plus JP should be able to excel even more because of who he will go up against.

No disrespect intended but the Kings 3rd line is Lemieux - Lizotte - Brown. If we are talking about a street fight, then I am probably picking the Kings 3rd line with Lemieux and Brown but JP and Nuge are faster and more talented than those 3 so I would take the Oilers 3rd line to have more success on the ice than the Kings.

This little guy. It's both the most-heartwarming and most devastating thing at once. I'm really proud of what the franchise is doing for him.

It’s seriously Musty around the city. You think that was snow you woke up to? No. It was Must buildup… the skies can feel the Must.

Gasm’s Musty Key to the Game;
Starts with a Musty start; hear the crowd when you’re getting your jock on, lace up your skates to the sound of a Musty Oil Country playoff remix of fans stomping and screaming. Get AMPED skating out to Enter Sandman and SEND THE KINGS BACK TO THEIR HOTEL TO SLEEP WITH ONE EYE OPEN, GRIPPING THEIR PILLOW TIIIIGHT!

But really. There should be no reason this team isn’t up to start on time. Have a good start. Force your game on the Kings. The Must will prevail. Oh, and don’t overplay Archibald.

I think I'd actually prefer the scoring even more evenly divided, knowing how heavily they target 97 and 29.
swap Arch and Kane. Let a Nuge line with Kane and JP or Hyman take on another team's 3rd line.

Arch - McD- - Yamo
McLeod - Leon - Hyman
Kane - Nuge - JP
Foegele - Ryan - Kassian

These lines are fluid.. I'm sure it may be a possibility during the game.

Y’all wouldn’t believe how hard it is to find a spare slow pitch player for 7:45 tonight.

Maybe I wasn’t selling it properly to my friends with this message:

Want to skip the hockey game tonight and come stand in the cold with my (jerk) slow pitch friends? 7:45 start. I'd drive you.

But seriously, if you want to play…

Almost as hard as finding a goalie in 2020, 2021, 2022?

The only thing I would say is:
- It's pretty clear Kane and McD have chemistry. Kane is tied for the league lead in playoff goals and tied for the team lead in points so why would you want to break up something that is clearly working.
- As good as McD is at setting up people, you need a finisher with him. Archibald is not a finisher and Yamo while coming along nicely, is not a finisher yet.
- I know Arch is physical but Kane is WAY more of a physical presence and guy who can look out for McD if needed.
- You have completely eliminated all size from McD's line. Yamo is scrappy and not afraid to go anywhere but he is 5'8 153 and Archibald is physical and not afraid but he's 5-10, 176. Vs Kane is 6'2 210.

If you keep Kane with McD, you have size, speed, skill and physical play on every line.

Bust out the MUST!

Need to get the first goal.. play sharp, think sharp.. early.
Relentless forecheck.. take the body at every opportunity.

I think McD is due for a big game. No complaints with how he's been so far. 6 pts in 4 games is good but held off the scoresheet last game, then little Ben telling him he's got it after winning. Explosion night for McD.

Here's to a big game tonight. Hopefully the team comes out flying and runs LA out of the building.

If you're looking for a zen way of looking at the next couple games though, just remember that if we lose this series, at least it's probably the end of Ken Holland, and maybe even Bob Nicholson!

The end of Holland and Nicholson would be moot next to burning another year of Connor.

I hope there's no politics coming down from above right now - play player X because he makes more than player Y, don't play player C because we have to sign him next year an don't want him to look good.... Can't trust this org.

Worst case they scrape through and win one round against an over matched team with injuries before losing to the provincial rivals, but it’s deemed a success so we continue on with the plan.

1000% chance CBC won't cut into the Leafs game to show the Oilers.
