Move on. Get screamed at. Start Smith and win some more.

Was that the worst game we've played this season? It sure felt like it. It's the first one I've tuned out after not even having watched half of it anyway.
I know it doesn't help when you spot the other team a 2-0 lead within the first couple of minutes, but our entire team appeared disinterested the entire game.

Worst game of the season? The first two games they played vs the Leafs in that 3-game series whitewashing were arguably worse up and down the line-up.

Well, this happened. Let us never speak of it again and move on.

They've been living in quarantined hotel rooms for 10 days, plus played OT night before.. probably takes a toll.. so a game to flush and forget.

Couple that with the fact they play a different game in front of Koskinen.

This team needs more top end help. Glendening won’t fix this.

Ya, 3rd game in 4 nights against a team that's been off for a week. Schedule loss. Nothing to see here.

There have been a few bad ones but it is also the first (I think) that I have shut down in disgust. The decision is easier with these early games.

That McDavid elbow was really bad on replay. Suspension incoming? He’s taken a suspension for less.

Shouldn’t be, but Parros is a joke and loves suspending star players so who knows.

I dunno man. If someone can across the ice and hit McDavid, late, like that many would be screaming for a blood debt.
I am guessing three games.

Is that serious? The player wasn't injured, and didn't miss a shift, so it looks worse than it actually is. Worst case scenario, maybe they fine him.

I think suspension over that would be a travesty and would demonstrate just how inconsistent league justice is. Tkachuk's done worse in almost every meeting against the Flames.

I'm now almost glad that this game wasn't screened over here after reading the game day thread and this one. I felt so confident before hand that I'd predicted a shut out of the Habs not ourselves. I didn't expect it to be against us for sure.

As for the McDavid hit, it's not often you see him do anything like that. I'm not sure what caused him to do it, but it sort of widens the target on his back a little. As if you are prepared to dish it out, you have to be prepared to take it. I don't think he'll be suspended for it, but he may get a discreet verbal warning. I'm still not sure why he was called for roughing and not elbowing though.

Yes, I am serious. I have said before that the injury, or lack thereof, should play a small part in the punishment. The intent and action should be the majority.
He went multiple strides, with intent, aimed high and connected.
To be clear, I dont think it was an egregious play but many times players have been suspended for that doing that.
I know he was frustrated. I didnt see it but apparently he took a high stick that was missed. I hope he gets angry more often as maybe if the star players lose their mind more often the league will take notice.

As an Oiler fan I agree. Best elbow ever and 5K well spent. I mentioned in my other post that star players should and will do this more if the league doesnt do something about it.

I am very surprised, given the NHL's history, that he wasn't suspended but very happy that the positive outcome on the wheel of justice spun our way this time

We see lots of times guys getting drilled in the back, sent flying head first into the boards and they sometimes don't even get a penalty, let a lone a fine or a suspension. Of course as an Oilers fan, I don't want McD suspended but just as a hockey fan, I have seen way, way worse get nothing so the fine is more than enough in my opinion.

I thought the Bennett hit on Koekkoek was worse. It wasn't a "head shot" so it was deemed a clean hit. But Koekkoek was extend and full exposed. He didn't know he was coming so he had no chance to protect himself. Bennett going full speed rams his body into an unsuspecting player because he wanted to hurt him. You can't have a with equipment on a probably over 200+ object ram into your shoulder and arm with speed and not have the player be pretty injured. Kotkanemi saw McD coming, still an elbow but he saw him coming.

I'm in a sea of Leaf and Habs fans here, so always lots of chirping when we play either of those teams. This is as angry as I've seen a few of them, especially considering they handed us our ass. Oh well, good times! Good job Connor! icon_lol

So one question about this - why is an elbow an extra fine? There's a penalty that is specifically designed to address the foul, so why extra discipline? I don't think I've ever seen an elbowing penalty that hit anywhere other than the head, and yet they aren't an automatic major or even a double minor - yet there's been several of them fined this year. You would think if you wanted to discourage the behaviour it would make sense to give more on-ice discipline as opposed to a negative financial incentive after the fact.

If they were serious about this, they'd make it at least a double minor for a head shot, as opposed to a fine that's a joke for an NHL player.

So one question about this - why is an elbow an extra fine?...If they were serious about this,

I think you just answered your own question.

After rewatching it, I still don't think there was any contact to the face or head, only the shoulder - the rest was Oscar-worthy.

That McDavid elbow was really bad on replay. Suspension incoming? He’s taken a suspension for less.

I can't see how he's suspended. The head has to be the principal point of contact and it's not. He swings through the shoulder and the follow-through hits the head. I'd be mad if I was the Finnish kid or a Habs fan, but punishment was given on ice and nothing more.

Bad game right from when the starting lineup was handed in by Tip.

Too funny watching McDrai just turn into riverboat gamblers for the 20th time after they've been playing together too long. Tip needs to mix that stuff up more often. Don't be a McLellan.

Connor just wanted to pay him back for all the extra hotel time they go on this road trip. Just another day! Connor for PM if he's going to play like that!

Wow, the fact that was even called a penalty is ridiculous. He contacts the shoulder and that's it. Kotkaniemi throws his head back and touches his face but there does not appear to be ANY contact with his head or face. What a dive. There better not be a suspension.

It's definitely interference. Can't really argue that. The puck is nowhere near them.

It was all worth it then...as long as Parros doesn't also feel that way.

Ugly game. Technically it shouldn't be an excuse but the Oilers looked like a team that has been playing, played 2 OT games in a row against a really tough opponent, had an OT game the night before on an extremely long, overly extended road trip then unexpectedly got an extra game dropped on them out of no where. They had ZERO energy. Habs looked like an extremely rested, completely fresh team chomping at the bit to play.

I get this is a strange year and when games get missed, you have to get them in but it sure seems totally unfair to the non Covid problem team to just have to suck it up and figure it out when they get a game dropped on them last minute. Seems like almost a punishment to me.

Listening to Rishaug talking about he wonders if they could do it again, would they come back after all the Habs games got cancelled instead of sitting in the hotel, in lock down hanging out. They ended up other than I assume maybe an hour of practice, they went 7 days between the Jets game and the first Leafs game basically hanging out in a hotel. That could suck mentally after a while.
