Ugh, that's just what this team needs, to lose another D-man. Hopefully Koekoek is ok....

This would be a great point in the season for Chiasson to go on a goal streak. Let's see if he can keep it going.

JJ comes out of that bout with the decision on points if not by TKO.

Yep. Didn’t get tagged once.

Good for him. I’m still buyer beware, but I have been liking his contributions.

Agreed. I dont know what happened during his black aces time but he seems like a different player. He will never be a team leader on offence but is playing a perfect bottom 6 role right now

If I were making up a player's stats in those EA NHL games, I'd have to give Dr Drai no better than a 6/10 in passing. He just telegraphs his intentions far too often, and on top of it his passes wind up being baby-ass-soft.

But he can also make that 10/10 pass that only maybe a handful of players can make

I think his mistakes seems more noticable for two reasons.
1. He has the puck on his stick a lot and this attempts a lot of passes. Bound to be some bad ones.
2. He tries passes many people wouldnt as he seems to have great vision.

There is a reason he is considered one of the best passers in the league by many.

The need of some Oiler fans to over criticize good hockey players more all while idolizing dusters will never cease to amaze me

If clearing the puck was a stat, I'd have to give him 4/10. That negligent backhand nearly led to another Flames goal. Terrible.

BTW, passes to the point on the PP aren't special ones that players wouldn't try. If I had a nickel for each time he turned the puck over on such pass attempts I'd be a hundredaire.

Well, I guess it is a good thing you arent in charge of either the Oilers scouting of the EA rating team as both of them identified passing as one of his strengths.

Stuff happens and no one will be mistake free. I am not really into the deep stats but I am sure there is a passing percentage stat around and I doubt his is terrible

Yep - Oilers fans for some reason always love the Kelly Buchberger or Bryan Marchment types, while loving to hack on the best players we've had. The number of talented guys who've been criminally underrated by Oilers fans is pretty long.

Just constant interference from Tkachuk on that last shift, hanging off first Draisaitl and then McDavid. No problem from the refs. They're looking for tiny stick tugs, not full on hanging off players.

Generally the case. The holds and late hits (interference) don’t get called on that plug.

Examples? I'd love to hear that Gretzky or Messier were "hacked on" while they were Oilers.

Maybe you're thinking about Eberle- I agree that trading him for Strome was a bad move, but there is no denying that he played like a punk vs the Ducks in that relatively brief playoff run.

Coffey, Hemsky, Hall, Eberle, Nugent-Hopkins, Draisaitl...

And a whole host of secondary guys like Klima, Penner, Schultz, etc.

Great, now provide some examples of dusters that have been idolized around here, including by me. Take your time, I have all year.

Yep - Oilers fans for some reason always love the Kelly Buchberger or Bryan Marchment types, while loving to hack on the best players we've had. The number of talented guys who've been criminally underrated by Oilers fans is pretty long.

I like Hass and all but just look at the constant posts about the guy and how quick we needed him to come back
People still defend Kris Russell from time to time as if he is a Norris candidate
Fernando Pisani was a good player and all but he is no star but he walked on water to many

....and the king of them all Ryan Smyth. He did the best with the tools he had but he wasnt the most skilled guy around. People talk about him in the same vein as the best the team has ever had.

To be fair, Pisani DID walk on water for that playoff run..

I think everyone knows guys like Haaaaaas are what they are, but he's better than what they were rolling out (Turris) and he HAS made a difference, both on PK and low event minutes in our own end... the guy has some speed, and smarts.

No one is saying there's no value in those guys. Ryan Smyth was a very valuable player, Pisani definitely was valuable. But grinders (and fighters) get all kinds of love, and often aren't looked at critically at all. Jason Smith was worshiped as if he was one of the best captains we ever had by some. He was a good player, but he was never the most important defenceman on the team in any of his seasons here.

Meanwhile, there are those who do suggest that McDavid & Draisaitl not doing enough is the reason the Oilers aren't contenders yet...

I think it’s because it’s a community with so much heart and soul, pride in self and a hard working community that those types of players are highlighted in fan circles as an empathetic support kinda thing.

Maybe? I dunno. I’m a half bottle of Burrowing Owl in

I have mentioned the same thing before as well so agree with you.
Like Adam said those guys have value but many Oiler fans base evaluation on expectations.
A 10/10 talent player can never make mistake. Every shift, every game should be a masterpiece.
A 4/10 player gets praised on the regular for non-tangibles.

this was years ago but I read (maybe even on here) that the if you take out the top 5 scorers from each teams sales numbers the Oilers lead the league in jersey sales every year.

Seriously, who is saying this? The general consensus here isn't that the top forwards are the issue with this team but instead the defence and goaltending. I can't think of a single person who EVER said that McDavid is part of the problem instead of part of the solution for this team, so I'd really like to know who the idiots are who are actually voicing such sentiments.

There's a poster in here who complained about McDavid in about three straight games and suggested that he wasn't a leader, etc. etc. If someone remembers who that is, it's easy enough to find the posts.
