Last nights game is history. Two points banked.

On to the musty Dallas air.

Ps. Hope the boys got outta dodge before that tornado hit Nashville. Scary stuff.

Not cool. Two people died. Numerous lives ruined.

Agree. Rather crude. Oilers arrived safe last night;

Oilers Twitter
The #Oilers arrived in Dallas safely last night following our game in Nashville. We hope our fans who reside in or were visiting Music City are safe this morning & we extend our thoughts & prayers to everyone affected by the deadly tornado. 🧡💙

Jack Michaels
In light of all the texts/messages I received, probably worth noting that while a bit bumpy getting out last night, all is well and team arrived on schedule in Dallas. Meanwhile, hope everyone is safe & sound in Music City.

Right. No joking online when death is involved. Let me just check the Corona thread.

Also I get why they call it Smashville now.

If I know my Oilers, I’ve seen this play out a number of times. A dominating effort with contributions made throughout the lineup, followed up by....a big ol’ egg laying. Here’s hoping they’ve turned a corner on that pattern. I wouldn’t be putting any money on them tonight though.

I'll gladly take a loser point tonight. Not feeling good about this one. Koskinen in net. Coming off a huge game. Neal coming back in the lineup and everyone is hyping us like we are real team.

I am with you on this one. History states we will suck the big eggplant tonight.

Hoping that Mikko Loskinen can stand tall and keep the boys in it.

I’m starting to believe the 1-2 punch in our 5v5 game can do real damage. So refreshing to see Connor with capable wingers, Ennis has been a breath of fresh air. It’s also pretty incredible to have the PK as it’s been to then have Leon-McDavid-Yams tossed over the boards following a kill to bring the momentum back to the Oilers. It’s insane. This team man. Tipp has to be in the convo for the Jack Adams.

If they can find a way to pull this one out tonight... drink

I hope the boys have some goals left in them after last night.

Maybe the bottom 6 can pot a few tonight?

I will not relax until a Playoff spot is clinched.

A tougher game for the Oilers are Dallas doesn't score a lot but they don't give up much plus they have 2 goalies playing lights out. Even tougher it's a back to back. Here's hoping that Koskinen seeing Smith somewhat start to pull away a bit in the net decides he's not done yet and has a strong game. I didn't know what to expect with the goalies this year but I think having the 2 guys split almost equally has really helped keep them both fresh and motivated to do well. There has been a few not so good games but for the most past, the Oilers have been getting decent to good goaltending.

Need it tonight!!

Yeah, hopefully Koski doesn't feel diminished in any way because of how good Smith has been lately and comes out with one of his best games of the season. We need him to be the Koski he can be. Dallas has been good this year. I like our chances but this will be a tough test. Forward depth being so much better now raises confidence level in what is possible with this team.

Good idea. But it would require JP to actually follow instructions and listen to someone else other than himself. Tough for him to do.

How's Yamamoto's Finnish? Better than JP's English? If you have to ask the question...

The last time I checked the NHL is 100% played in North American cities where the primary language is English. So it doesn't matter for Yamo but in saying that, my guess is that if Yamo played on a Finnish team, he'd probably take Finnish language course and after 3 years would be able to speak more than a couple of words and the odd broken sentence.

If you took a job in Japan with the intent of working there for the next 10-15 years, wouldn't it be in your best interest to try and learn the language they speak?

My feelings toward Dallas remain from the late 90's early 00's - and now living in Texas, they have only deepened. I would enjoy nothing more than slapping them around. McDavid had his first hattrick here a few years ago and seems to do well in Dallas, but still expecting a good old egg laying too!

Looks like Jimmy Neal is back!

Jack Michaels Twitter machine;
Neal will return tonight in Dallas. Fellow ex-Star Kris Russell will be a game-time decision. Koskinen will start in net—he was brilliant in a 2-1 win in Dallas Dec. 16.

Tippet is noncommittal in which forward will be on popcorn duty to allow Neal’s insertion to the lineup. My guess? AA gets to watch his new team.

So who comes out for Neal? Chaisson? Khaira?

My guess would be Chaisson, because Khaira is a better penalty killer.

Russell has been okay since he came back from his injury issues, but Benning and Lagesson would be okay.

I would put money on AA taking a seat tonight.

I could see AA getting a seat just to take a breath. Moving from a new team, the only team you have known would be hard. Then you factor in going from a team who's been out of the playoffs for realistically months so the games mean squat. Then to go to a good team in the heat of a playoff battle where every single game matters and it's literally play by play would be really hard. Take his "mistake" on the Preds second. He didn't fail to cover a guy, he didn't make a bad pass or play. He got the puck, turns quickly to move up the ice and lost control of the puck. It happens all the time. I bet being that it was in Nashville and the ice would probably be not the best, that played a part. The smallest unfortunately mistake ends up in the net. So I bet he's a little overwhelmed and I am sure his confidence coming to the Oilers wasn't exactly sky high either.

Moving forward, I would sit Khaira long term. Sure he does decent on the PK …….. but what else? He's doesn't score. He had 2 10 bell chances against Winnipeg and couldn't score. He's a player that the puck tends to die on his stick. For a supposedly big, physical guy who is a bottom 6 guy fighting to keep his job, you'd think he would be trying to hit everything that moves and stir the pot. He had 2 hits last night. In a playoff type of game against the Jets, he had 1 hit. You have to do more than just kill penalties. In Chiasson, I think there is a better chance of getting a goal or him setting up a goal than Khaira.

I think in sitting JJ, it puts Drai on the PK and playing more minutes. In sitting Chiasson, sure he’s more likely to pot a goal than JJ however, there’s Neal and Yamo that could take Chiasson’s minutes on the PP.

That all said, I think AA could benefit from a game upstairs.

If the worry about sitting JJ is the PK, what about Haas? He played a bit of PK this year and was fine. He's a center, has great speed, seems decent defensively. He seems to be able to draw a lot of penalties. Moving forward, I am just looking for guys who contribute something 5 on 5. Khaira doesn't do that. I can live with a 4th liner not producing much but at least generate some zone time. Grind the other team down a little, tire the other team out, keep the puck in the zone so you can get a change in. Khaira doesn't do any of that. The play dies on his stick. What's the worst part. He has the worst +/- on the team. +/- is a 5 on 5 stat and while I don't take a ton of stock in it, it's still not good that a guy who gets as little ice time as Khaira does and that ice time is boosted by his PK time is that bad defensively 5 on 5.

I'm seeing Ben Bishop as Day to Day and the Stars called up a 3rd goalie on emergency loan.

Not that Khudobin is terrible. One of the most underrated goalies out there.
