Looking forward to seeing how they alienate the fanbase today while smugly believing they know best and repeat the same mistakes that have resulted in missing the playoffs 12 of the last 13 years and 14 of the last 17. You could look for the common thread, but I'm sure the water or the weather will be to blame.

Lol - yep. Hoping for another classic Oilers presser that will (further) embarrass the org.

You'd have to think they will try to tone it down a bit though and not say anything outrageously stupid. Fortunately not saying dumb things isn't really Nicholson's strong point.

Hey do you think DK will call Burgers on his cell live during the presser??

Why would you blame management? Until this brief 13 years of only making the playoffs once, your stats show that they made the playoffs 2 of the 4 years. That is a management team worth ensuring they never lose their jobs.

Audio keeps cutting out on TSN 1260, but it sure sounded like Bobby waxed poetically about evaluating the current people and saying some of them have done a very good job then immediately went on a rant about the need for having the right people in place. He's also done a lot of hiring in hockey. So he's got this handled, if it was ever a concern.

Doomed.

Had to turn it off, Bob said in no uncertain terms the core of the management people are really really good and have done really really good things.

No they haven't.. can MacT get a pass putting his mark on the Condors? I don't know.. but this mix of management hasn't made any difference in 13 years!

Bob is a friendly face and friendship/relationship builder. He'll bend over backwards to make people happy. But a complete fish out of water when it comes to critical evaluation and decisions, listening to him talk is utter painful because he is being expected to make a decision he is extremely poorly equipped to make.

Spector and Bob both banging the Keith Gretzky drums and it makes me ill because it sounds like the decision has already been made and they are throwing this facade up to make it look legit.

Keith says he has a plan! But he's not perma-GM yet so he can't share it.

Nicholson follows up saying we need to give the fans a plan.

A whole lotta nothing in that conference. Constant evaluation. Everybody stays until new GM gets here. Oh and the new GM has to be open with fans.

I guess nobody gave Bob a time limit on his forensic audit. He is still poking at the corpse trying to determine if there are signs of life. Kevin Lowe says there is.

Nothing will ever change.

(Also, I could care less if the new GM is standing in front of the microphone telling me a plan. I'd actually rather they didn't. Show me. I've heard enough talk).

Notice they are leaving the POHO job vacant?

We know he won't get fired so why not just slip him in to the POHO role after his GM tenure fails miserably?

Bobby is probably a confident POHO now. 2 months of hard work learning that a POHO and GM does has paid off. He passed the POHO quiz and essay assignments that Lowe prepared for him.

It is definitely stupid that Gretzky was there. All he really did at the conference was try to sell himself and treat this like an audition, even teasing his has a great plan. That's pretty dumb if Bob is making an honest effort to find the best possible guy.

Why was it stupid for Gretzky to be there? If he is not, who's going to answer any player related questions? The media guys asked specific player related questions. They asked about the trades, they asked about the draft, they asked about what the current team is missing. ALL player personnel stuff. Someone involved in the hockey side needed to be there and right now, with no GM, he's the guy.

It is definitely stupid that Gretzky was there. All he really did at the conference was try to sell himself and treat this like an audition, even teasing his has a great plan. That's pretty dumb if Bob is making an honest effort to find the best possible guy.

What do you mean “no GM”? He was right there.

If you are a great GM candidate and you're looking for a nice place to land, do you choose the place where there's two other guys who used to hold the role in the organization (with a nebulous structure that makes it unclear if you're slotted above or below them) plus another former GM in a similar nebulous position AND the interim GM, who's announced he wants the position you're applying for, and who'll almost certainly still be expected to play SOME role if you are hired. Oh, and he's the brother of the Vice-Chair, who the owner loves.

The optics on bringing him out here aren't good. And they should have had a better plan for what he'd say if he was asked about the job search - "I can't really comment on that" would have been a hell of a lot better than "I want the job."

Listen here Prairie Adam, you're being negatively negative here. The Oilers have the world's best player, a 50 goal scorer, over a dozen cups in management, a new building that isn't losing its luster at all, and a can-do community spirit. There is a lot to like here. A lot. Plus a decade long sell out streak that is very legit.

I am a reasonable person and can have his mind changed when given a good argument. So I am willing to listen.

The team currently has no GM in place, they have Gretzky who was the assistant GM, currently handling the duties at this time. They don't have a POHO either so Nicholson is in that role. They are having a year end presser which is required. The media is going to ask questions about players and pro hockey stuff. Nicholson will know some things but he won't be able to properly answer them all. As a fan of the team, I personally want to hear some good answers on some of the player stuff. I assume most people did as well. I sure as hell don't want to hear anyone fluffing past a question or saying "Well I don't really know, I will let the new GM answer that when he gets here." The new GM could be a guy that wasn't here. So how can he give an answer on anything that happened when he wasn't hear? So since you are not a fan and think having Gretzky out there was a mistake, who else is going to answer ANY hockey questions of what happened? They need someone. So who?

I’ll tell you who. Tobias Rieder. It’s the least he can do after making us miss the playoffs and hurting Connor’s knee
