Seeing some positive contributions from all 4 lines tonight I'd say. Not often that happens in these parts. 3rd line has got to cash in on a chance soon, it's getting ridiculous.

Koskinen pretty close to perfect again. One unlucky goal against.

Is that third line getting much for great chances? They definitely are doing a good job getting pucks in and grinding away, but have they had a lot of great chances? Tonight, they had 3 shots on goal, two for Kassian and one for Brodziak.

It makes me wonder if the Grumpy Old Men line the Stars had back in the day was really as effective as they seemed then, or if it was just a stupid nickname and the announcers raving about them playing low event hockey that made them seem more effective than they were?

There's a big step up from where we were with those players under McLellan, as they at least have a pulse now, and because of that, they're not leaking goals against...but they aren't exactly scary offensively.

Thought they missed one open net, probably didn't count as a shot cause it was flubbed.

I think they have been getting chances though. Last 5 games, Lucic has been out for 11 high danger chances for. In that same time McDavid has been on the ice for 17. Shots 33 to 25 in Lucic's favour when he's been out there. And that's with 36% offensive zone starts. Think the hockey gods owe them at least something hehe.

I was just thinking tonight - games that I don’t notice 27 - is typically a good thing.

Just 11 minutes of ice time for Lucic tonight. Hitchcock has not felt the same pressure to push him up the lineup...

I wonder if Chiarelli hired Hitch, or if that was the Old Boys move?

My theory is that McLellan leaned on Lucic to be a leader in the room and relay his messages for him because he doesn't like doing it himself. And he badly needed to try to keep Lucic legitimate in the room and tried to prop him up with opportunity. Hitch deals with players top to bottom on his own, he doesn't need to try to create figureheads that he can use in the room. Letestu was probably one of McLellan's top guys in the room as well, being a good boy being McLellan's echo.

I think it was pretty clear that McLellan didn't care one bit about what Chia wanted. Doubt there was ever pressure that McLellan was giving into to play Lucic. He had his own reasons. Actually doubt he ever actually felt he answered to Chia at all. OBC hire, OBC fire.

These games since Hitch has arrived hasn't been goal fests, but grinding out the results as we did tonight is building confidence though it doesn't do our nerves any good going into the last few minutes of the game left.

That winning goal was down to a great shift by that line. Loved the battle from everyone.

Obviously liked the win but not Michaels’ calling for the last 30 seconds. Jesus Christ, it’s a regular season game, not freaking Game 7 of the Cup Finals.

Didn't realize Drai has been playing so much lately.

That's a lot of ice time for a big body forward. Hitch sure Drai has the same conditioning as McDavid? He was seriously dragging his butt around tonight. Got an assist off a clear attempt though, so I guess all is forgiven :)

Full minute of PK time for #29 tonight too...

We definitely will live or die by 97/29/93 this season. God forbid any of them gets hurt...

Not sure what happened to getting McDavid some shifts with the 4thies to hit that ~24 min mark. Hitch must have lost faith in the 4thies to do anything. Hope that can work again, you can't keep riding guys like Drai and Chaisson hard every night.

The incredible thing is that it's really only 4 guys getting minutes. There's a five minute gap between Chiasson's 18:58 and #5 Brodziak's 13:54. Even Nuge's linemates aren't getting much ice time. It definitely shines a light on the total lack of depth that the GM provided. You have to hope that even if we miraculously make the playoffs, Chiarelli's earned his walking papers...

Drai had a big giveaway at his own blue line late and was weak on the puck on a turnover. I think he was out of gas late. 20 min of icetime? Sure. 24? I don't know.

Other than that, I don't recall any Fancy Dan pass attempts turn into giveaways tonight that we've seen all year out of LD, so that's a plus....If Hitchcock can work some flaws out of Leon, the benefits will be significant.

Great win.

Both Chaisson and Drai looked a little tired. Not likely they can keep up this amount if ice time over the course of the season.

Some secondary scoring would be nice.

Game winner was secondary scoring!

But yeah, it would be good to see more chipping in...will be hard if they all get minimal icetime though...

Good play by Rattie to chase that guy down behind the net to pop the puck out for the Spooner goal. Thought he deserved an assist on the play. Big win! Koskinen was outstanding again.

I’m hoping he gets a long look.

I strongly feel he could eventually be a part of the secondary scoring this team lacks.

Yup, he's a decent forechecker and can be a bit physical as well, plus we've seen his offensive instincts.
