What a load of s**t, two games is a lot for the way the NHL enforces its rules on hits, I've seen hits like that routinely, and the player rarely get a 5 and a game. 10 times worse get only 2 games. In a split second Doughty decides to let the puck go, Maroon is lining him up for a hit as the puck comes to Doughty, which he SHOULD be doing, and Doughty lets it go, leaving Maroon, what a nano-second to react? If you've seen Maroon try to connect on a pass from McD, his reaction time is pretty freaking slow..
Well NHL has set the bar, we'll see if it holds up.
McDAVID! Oh YEAH Baby!!
Tic-Tac-Tao!
Keep on Rockin' in the Free World
P. Chiarelli math.. T. Hall = A. Larsson, Yak= bag o'pucks, K. Russell = $4.1 M+NMC, G. Reinhart= M. Barzal + A. Beauvillier

It's the same suspension for the same infraction on the same guy as Tkachuk got last year, but Tkachuk's seemed less intentional.
Just take the punishment, move on, and don't do stupid stuff in the future (at least for the next few months before you're traded).

Just 54 days to go before the trade deadline! Last 7-8 weeks of Patty Maroon here.
Letestu, Cammalleri and Auvitu on notice too...

After how he submarined the team Maroon probably would have been healthy scratched for at least 1 game so really only lose him for 1 game.

That's not a play you bench a guy for. He's trying to be aggressive and hit the other team's best defenceman - a guy who had been mugging the Oilers best player all night (seriously, the holding on McDavid after he's played the puck is ridiculous). He missed hitting him cleanly but the game happens pretty fast. It's not easy to adjust that hit once he's committed to it.
And penalties happen. The PK has to be able to kill off a major without surrendering goal after goal after goal.

Come on guys, we're better than that.

Dummies are everywhere unfortunately. The more people that pay attention to the team, the greater volume of idiots paying attention.

Just to add to this, someone took a screenshot of the "hope the worst harm" tweet, and it was a Kings fan with 20 followers. Still sucks for her, but she may need to get a little more used to this whole social media thing. She basically bashed the entire fanbase of her fiance's team by citing a tweet of a Kings fanw ith 20 followers.
Any punk from anywhere can make an account like that one and tweet nasty stuff. Could be 12 year old flames fans, 10 year old oilers or kings fans, russians (crusaderpi's), anyone. So easy to push peoples buttons online, especially if they are going to take seriously anything they read.

This. 100 times this. People really need to detach from their social media.
Here's what I do: pretend the internet is a giant bathroom stall. You wouldn't go into an esso bathroom in red deer and read that someone scrawled "eff you" (or something offensive about your celebrity husband) on the stall and get in a tizzy about it would you?

Dowdy has a big mouth and sway with the refs it appears.

The homer in me thinks it was a 2 minute interference penalty, no misconduct and certainly no suspension. I thought it was incidental contact that happened to hit Doughty in the head/face? Doughty then goes down like he's been shot realizing he'll be able to milk it for a major penalty. Good work by Doughty selling it.
If I remove the homer glasses, I can see why the refs gave a major and if it had been an LA player hitting McDavid the same way I would have been very satisfied with the ensuing 5 min PP. I think the game misconduct is automatic, so whatever. That said, after seeing the replay many times (which the officials don't get to do) I can't see that hit as suspension worthy, even if it had been on our best player. This was simply the NHL trying to make a point when someone hits a star player. If it had been Doughty on Maroon for example, I doubt a penalty would have even been called. This is my honest, non-homer opinion.
