Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl will have a hearing today for spearing San Jose’s Chris Tierney.

Say what you will, I think he's getting a 1 gamer.

I don't recall Crosby getting a hearing for his identical spear a few weeks back. Funny how that works.

Anyway, not that Drai was doing anything much on the ice, but if he does miss a game who do you put in that spot? Slepy didn't really do anything. I'd be hesitant to break up the 2nd line. Maybe Caggiula?

Damn, that play sucked. Hope he gets away from this with just a fine and he learns his lesson.

Hope it's only a fine, as he's a first time offender and the BoG has stated they want first time offenders to receive fines. But. Y'never know.

As for replacement, if he is suspended, I'd think Kass and The Drake flank McDavid and Hendricks is plugged into the fourth line with Desharnais and Pouliot. If no suspension, wouldn't mind seeing Desharnais sit and Hendricks plugged in on the Letestu-Pouliot line.

I know he's been pretty invisible so far this series so easy to forget him, but you're forgetting the big rig.
Where's his kid at anyway? Find a way to get him to the game. He always seems to turn it up when his son is in the building.

You're correct, I have forgotten him. Oops. He served the major for Drai yesterday, no?

Lucky. Owes his team some better play tomorrow for leaving them with a major to kill.

Hope Drai can pull it together tomorrow.

I thought he was done for, when they started using the term "spear", I was convinced the fix was in.
I stand corrected.

Quote:

Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl will not face a suspension for his spear on San Jose Sharks forward Chris Tierney on Tuesday night in Game 4 of their series, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced Wednesday. The German forward will be fined $2,569.44 for the infraction - the maximum amount allowed under the CBA

If this was Chris Pronger's decision in the Player Safety Department then thank you, all is forgiven for leaving after the 2006 Cup run.

J/K, you still suck and I hate you.

I seem to remember Thornton spearing a Oiler right in the guts the second to last game against the Sharks. Remenda commented he was lucky not to get a major. The NHL is a joke. The bias against small market teams is impossible to ignore. The league just wants it's biggest us tv markets in the finals and the games are called accordingly.

I haven't watched enough of the Leafs, Canadians or Senators to form an opinion of the redding in those series, however I've watched all 4 Oilers and Flames games which have both shown the bias. The Ducks have gotten away with things the Flames don't get away with, same story as the Sharks. I know it's playoff hockey, but the games have not been called evenly. But I digress. Happy that Drai is slapped with a fine and no suspension. Hopefully he stands out tomorrow for his play instead of for a boneheaded decision.

It's not just the markets, its the vets with a name or reputation. They get away with a huge amount of s--t out there.

Color me surprised by the result, as I thought he was getting at least a game for that play. He was frustrated, but who wasn't last night? Hopefully he can learn from this without letting it get into his head, as should everyone else on the team.
