Slow your roll, chief. Yes, they've won 3 straight games. However, they've won those games against some of the few teams that have been as stinky overall as they have. If they can crush the Hawks in the next game, something resembling hope might spark again in me.

I think that just and Old School reference :P none of us are delusional enough to think that winning 3 games against Calgary, Columbus and Florida is anything incredible... BUT, it just might be the confidence booster we need to start turning things around here! Maybe.

This little 3 game run which includes outscoring 3 bottom dwellers 15-1 over the past 7 periods is the equivalent of going out to the bar every night on a long weekend and bringing home a less then desirable lady..... The silver lining is sometimes you need a slump buster or two or this case 3 to get your confidence back up to start pulling 9's and 10's Calgary, Columbus and Florida are hopefully those slump busters

Side note....... Oilers are unbeaten since Bryz has been called up.

It would seem that Dubs has had a bit of a fire lit under his ass. Of course, we won't know that for sure until he beats a *good* team.

Bryz Bear could also be providing some veteran leadership and levity in the dressing room too. I could see him being a mentor for the Russian players and for Dubie.

Jokes aside, Potter should have always been the team's 6-7 guy, the dude is quite responsible defensively. Although he doesn't look the part, he is essentially a stay at home defender, and not a bad one at that.

And like a battered wife with no self-esteem, we come crawling back to the team. The next time they lose, I can almost picture them saying to us, "Why do you gotta make me do this to you? You think I wanna hurt you? WHY?!!?!".

I'm enjoying the wins, but until they are atleast .500 or string together 7+ wins in a 10 game span I'm not getting excited about the season. The playoff seeds have a huge lead over the Oilers.

Wow, that is one classy reference.

As for the three game win streak, I'm not scheduling for a Cup parade, it's just nice to see the team playing with some confidence. Am well aware the three teams we beat aren't the best of yardsticks but it's a start.

There is really no classy way to describe what Oil fans have been put through over the past month. There are in fact plenty of more *profane* ways I could have described what the team and its fans have been dealing with, but this site doesn't allow it.

I think the objection was more in respect to the depiction of spousal abuse than being loose with disappointments with the team.

Bad things happen all the time- you gotta be able to laugh at it, or the rage would choke you to death if the depression didn't drive you to suicide. Besides, I had to come up with an appropriate enough analogy to the kind of relationship fans have with this team, and spousal abuse provided the best one in my mind.

Try harder next time.

You wouldn't describe rape in detail like that. Spousal abuse is highly similar, and is often the same thing.

Just think on it. Not really a big deal, just not a great option for description.

I personally see it as more of a scammer/white collar crime.

Ok, let's try Rihanna-and-Chris-Brown style. Over the past few seasons, the Oil have given their fans less to cheer about and more to be mad about, yet the fans keep crawling back. That's the textbook definition of "abusive relationship" if I ever saw one. As I told Rukm, the analogy I made is quite tame compared to the ones I've been thinking of while watching this team bumble their way through October and early November this year, as those involve a lot of profanity, deviant sexual references, and explicit violence.

Wins are good. Hope this way we're playing can translate to wins against good teams as well.

It is definitely nice to see the coaching staff being able to adapt and make an effective change like they did with the PP. It's encouraging. Of course, need to see that work as well against good teams before making a final judgement :)

Ebs needs to cool it a bit. He's working his way back toward unsustainability.

This stuff beats the hell out of a no-show by the team or a sieve performance by Doobie. Love only yelling at the tv two or 3 times tonight....at Petry, our boy Potter, and at a couple of those daft penalties.

Officiating was not great, you have to be blind or brain-dead to miss a high stick on Nuge when the blade of the stick gets wedged in his visor. Terrible.

Special teams.....that PP looks pretty good, and the Kill was perfect. Doobie was a good penalty killer tonight, and played a good game but could have had another shutout.

What I really liked tonight was how the team was engaged in their own end. They seem to be picking up on busting cycles and winning some battles.

Good the team is winning the games you would think they've got a decent shot at, shows the players that good habits and hard work generates results. Long, long way to go for the Edmonton Oilers, though. Playoffs are a fantasy, but if they keep working hard and everyone pitches in, they'll be in a lot better place as the season progresses.

I would say this is a somewhat more convincing win. In their last game against Florida, the Oilers blew a 3-1 lead and ending up winning in OT and giving them a point.

The real test will come at their next game against the Hawks in 4 nights.

I'm going to disagree with this point, the big test comes the game after we next lose. We've got a taste for winning right now, which for this season is new, and new for this coach. It's how they respond to that streak ending, and how quickly it takes them to snap a losing streak. We go in against the Hawks, knowing they are the number 1 team in the league and though recently we've had some good results against them, it wouldn't be a shock for us to lose. It's how they respond to that once more that's the key. Fall back into what we've had before this win streak and we can shut the season down, snap back and respond with something akin to the last 3 games and we can perhaps keep hoping till it is all over.

If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door.

The Hawks are one of the few teams in the league who like to play run and gun with the Oilers, it will be interesting to see how they play and totally agree about the game after a loss. This team has come back from some serious adversity and I feel and had a theory Eakins was phrposely putting power against power to see how they respond. The first line is carrying the play now.

4 Cups

There's no reason not to enjoy this little mini run of success. I'm only sad we're not the late game on CBC tomorrow.

WAC's and GAB's. WAC's and GAB's.

Good game. I enjoyed it. If the Oilers can keep doing this, even better. I just watched the last 3 New Jersey games. Beat Pittsburg at home, went into Anaheim and beat the Ducks at home, the next night, went into LA and stole one though they were tired. Really like that big Larson kid on D.

If the Oilers could beat 3 top teams like that in a row I would be very, very happy.....and could see a lot of light at the end of this tunnel.

Obviously, Dubnyk has to start the next game, right? .948 save percentage over his last 5 games. .959 during this 3 game win streak. He's almost back up to .900 for the year.

Seriously - he's been pretty solid basically since Bryz was signed.

I'd give Doobie the Hawks, Bryz gets Preds or Jackets. No need throwing him in for his first game against the best team in the league.

Team as a whole has been playing good. Against fellow bottom feeders atleast. We'll see how that works against better teams like the Hawks and Preds.

Heck, Yak has had a 180 degrees and is playing solid in all three zones. Either Eakins or Igor set the young lad straight and is looking like a young Parise with a howitzer.

I never doubted him. The friggin media over there need to get on this kid's side. Like has been said, most casual fans take their views as gospel, and if they end up running this kid outta town, it will be the biggest mistake they ever did. He has the potential to be one of the best goal scorers in the NHL.

I think he may have the most natural talent of all the kids. Was kind of billed as more a one-dimensional goal scorer (again by the media) but he could wind up our best playmaker next to Nuge. Sees the ice extraordinarily well and has the patience to delay passes until everybody gives up on them being made, then the next thing you know it's on whomever's stick.

Would be a HUGE mistake trading this kid.

Didn't doubt him, but I figured it would take longer to get where he is. It's almost like he woke up one day and his hockey spidey sense turned on.

His passing is ridiculous. He's got the best saucers I've seen. That one feed to Gags on the rush was sick.

And he's not the fastest, but he's figuring out how use what speed he has with his great hands to kept past D men.

And he's doing a much much better job supporting in his own zone and on breakouts.

Sorry - didn't mean that you were doubting. Just that there were some on this board and a lot of media calling this "rookie" out for being in a slump and thinking that that was basically the peak for Yakupov.
