apparently this year was his most impressive fitness testing to date

Seeing claims that TUrris is in great shape too. Says he was in Edmonton all summer working out and practicing almost every day. Would be nice if he could redeem himself this year, not holding my breath though.

I had no idea Turris was still on the team. For some reason, I thought he was gone this summer.

Every year, every player is reported to come to camp in the best shape of their life. It never means anything.

I bet Looch will be in the best shape of his life for the 5th straight season with the Lames this year :)

Nice to see our boys laying a licking on the much more experienced Flames line-up. Completely dominating.
Lots of undisciplined penalties by the Flames which is helping.

Bouchard looks GREAT so far.

Agree Bouchard looks awesome, he'll be getting a lot of PP time this season, and expect he'll supplant Barrie eventually as the #1.

Overall impression, a lot of skill and speed.. a little surprised they are rolling over the Flames this badly.. this is is basically an AHL, bottom 6 contender, Oil line up, way faster, more skill.. GOOD TIMES!!

Benson speed is good, great skill
Perlini quick and big
Bourgault looking better than rookie games.. I can see a great future
MacLeod has improved, more finesse, calmer, looking solid..
Turris off season has brought results, looks quicker, and stronger.
and D Ryan.. couldn't remember how he played last year.. but the guy has a ton of skill, quick, great forechecker, smart player, he'll make a big difference.

Think Ryan was down with the rest of the Lames last year. Just a bad depressing season for that team, which could very well happen again this year as Sutter tries to recreate the LA Kings glory without an elite 2-way C, clutch goal scorers, and Elite 30min/night #1D and Goalie playing like prime Hasek at the right times. Lol, they basically check zero of those boxes.

Anyways, Ryan, I don't think this is a guy Tippett will be scared to play in a tough situation. Kind of player we've missed for a long time to play C in the bottom 6.

All the usual pre-season caveats, but I hope last night spoke to the Flames team and how they are going to hope to play this year. Slow, chippy and overwhelmed, with the spectre of Gaudreau's UFA and Tkachuk's expensive RFA summers looming.

Looking at this division, it's hard to see how we should finish any worse than 2nd - even with mediocre goaltending and defence. The California teams will still be bad. Calgary will be playing Sutter hockey, but with all grinders. Vancouver may start the season without one or both of their star players. Seattle is an expansion team. This is truly the weakest division in the West, and we should romp over divisional rivals with only Vegas to worry about. Inter-divisional play will be a bigger test.

Per the Flames website, Caqlgary's starting lineup.

Dillon Dube - Mikael Backlund - Tyler Pitlick

Milan Lucic - Brad Richardson - Trevor Lewis

Jakob Pelletier - Glenn Gawdin - Matthew Phillips

Martin Pospisil - Adam Ruzicka - Brett Ritchie

Pairings

Nikita Zadorov - Rasmus Andersson

Juuso Valimaki - Erik Gudbranson

Connor Mackey - Andy Welinski

Goaltenders

Dan Vladar

Adam Werner

Big line up, I expect a goon fest on Cow pies part.

Nice to see our boys laying a licking on the much more experienced Flames line-up. Completely dominating.
Lots of undisciplined penalties by the Flames which is helping.

Bouchard looks GREAT so far.

Wish we didn’t have to listen to the fLames broadcast crew, though.

I didn’t mind it. I enjoyed listening to them have to acknowledge how the young Oilers played so well.

If the bottom six forecheck like this group did tonight, then this could be a fun team to watch this year.

Bouchard looked good. I only saw the third, but Lavoie, Konvolov and Perlini stuck out. Not so sure about Broberg yet, but I only saw a few of his shifts.

Actually Lambardias normally nauseates me when he does Flames (didn't mind him doing WHL/CHL), but he really gave the Oil a lot of praise during this broadcast.. pleasantly surprised.

Also, I usually wouldn’t be concerned about a guy like Broberg since he’s a defence man and was known to be a long term project - but that draft day we were all yelling at the TV for Zegras and in my case, Caufield. I think I am panicking a lot quicker on this guy, it’s just frigging game 1 of pre season but he stood out the least of the D corps. Like even Kemp looks years ahead of him.

I dunno, I hope he blossoms later like everyone expects but you think you’d see something.

Surprised the Flames laid an egg with Lucic there providing all that leadership.

Sounds like Bouchard was a tower of power all night. Flames tried to play "Sutter hockey" and goon it up and the Oilers just went around them and dominated while playing maybe 4 guys that will for sure be on the team. Now it was the first game of the preseason and I am sure the vet Flames weren't trying but the fact that the Flames were probably playing 5 out of their 6 NHL dman and the Oilers pumped them, isn't a good look on them. icon_lol

Backlund smashed his stick on a Flames PP, where the Oil out chanced the Flames and controlled the puck for two minutes. Vets were trying, but either they had rusty legs or the Oil bottom 6 is going to be a lot better.

Likely a bit of both.

Two ways this goes...either we come out and curb-stomp the Kraken for fun, or everyone figures they already have spots anyhow, so they sleepwalk through this one and just try not to pull any muscles...

I'm ready to panic either way. Winning too much in pre-season usually means we suck in regular season. And losing in pre-season makes me think we suck immediately.

At least we can all still agree that Josh Archibald should have gotten vaccinated, and that Kevin Lowe is the worst (while still being one of the only non-Habs to have won six Cups and knowing something about winning.)

Perlini gaining some increased separation over Benson after this game.. he's looking pretty good, fast, big, and a great shot.. figure he'll be staying.

Niemelanen also looks pretty good, stay at home, not making any mistakes, plays super solid.. coul dbe a 5/6/7 sooner than later.

They said Benson had a great game last time out.

Maybe they both make it and we can send scrubs like Archibald and Shore out!

Seattle did not look, but everything was for the Oil. I realize they had a NHL lineup going, but they looked sharp.

Perlini has a great shot, huge and can skate. He’s finishing the puck from distance. It would be unreal to cash in on a value deal. Although there is no reason to stir things up, I’d like to see what he could do in the top 6. He’s ripping Turris passes. Imagine him flanking Draisaitl?

I’m admittedly in full Koolaid mode.
