Holy does this team need to wake up. Get effing going! We're giving the Leafs infinite respect right now.
This team loses too... just not to us.
Just as I type that out, Nurse with the goal. Good work. Hopefully that adds a little juice moving forward in this game.

I think they are playing a smart gameplan. I haven't seen many huge gambles, and it is leading to less shots for but also WAY less good chances against.
After a week off any team is going to come out a bit rusty. I bet the Leafs talked plenty about attacking hard and fast to start the game so playing a bit conservative and weathering the storm isnt bad hockey.
They have played a good 27ish minutes with one lucky GA. I have zero concerns about the offensive talent on this team but them not allowing the Leafs to run and gun makes me happy.

Full credit to Coach Tipp for the way the team are playing. This has been almost a perfect road playoff game for the team, unlucky GA on Smith aside. They've kept the Leafs to mainly outside chances, as I can't recall a shot on Smith within 10 feet or less of his crease in front of the net.
If the Oil can keep playing this way moving forward, suddenly I could start to feel more comfortable about their defensive ability which in turn would make me feel more comfortable about their playoff run chances.

This is a snippet of a post I made in the Smith thread;
PlusOne wrote on Sat, 27 March 2021 17:48 |
There are a lot of players that were pretty terrible in the first part of the season that have been a lot better in the last 20 or so games. Larsson and Nurse are tops of that list for me. Barrie has also been better defensively than he was at the start. He will never be a shut down guy but every shift isnt an all (goal for) of nothing (goal against) situation now.
Having those 3 D improve massively has helped a lot keep the puck out of our net.
|
Tonight is a great example of that. When this team limits grade A chances and plays smart hockey every game is winnable.
The goals will come and they dont need to jump every play trying to get breakaways and 2 on 1's.
Play smart and most games will be close and winnable.

I think Nurse is now tied for first among D-men for goals with ol' Petry. Freaky.

So, like, this is the first time the Oil have had a lead over the Leafs in nearly 11 periods of hockey.

The look off, then no look tape to tape at 30 KM/HR is something else. Not to mention the quick trigger one timer from that far out.
What a pair of talents those two are.

There have been some warranted complaints about Drai and his giveaways on no look backhand passes but when they work they look special
He has had a few tonight.

That pass easily surpassed the one Connor sent to him for the 2-1 goal.
