Have read some rumblings this morning that the Oilers might be in negotiations for Reaves. That would be another massive unforced mistake. He's older than when he was with Vegas and way less effective. He's been bad defensively. He doesn't PK. He's -5 in 12 games with the Rangers this year, posting all of three shots with no points playing 8 minutes a night.

If Holland really believes that that's the guy who we need to turn things around? Well, then god help us all.

I can't understand why we would go for Reaves. He is like a replacement for Kassian, but not as good as Kassian, which says a lot.

How many conference final winning GWG's has Kassian scored though?!

Yikes, didn't know he is already 35 too. His usefulness has really fallen off, even as a tough guy.

Pure desperation move by the Oilers if they get him. Like filling a checkbox on "toughness" will suddenly make everyone else play better.

Well, the Oilers are addicted to the belief in fantasy attributes to players that magically make the team around them better. The fans and reporters around the team believe in this mysticism too. You show them a player who's empirically proven to be mediocre, and they'll tell you that just being around him made several other (usually younger) players better.

Now a skeptic like yours truly might suggest that guy who's 22 with more games in the NHL is likely going to have improved on his 21 year old rookie season just through experience and maturity, but you'll never convince many in Edmonton of that. Rather the whole being near a guy who used to be good was the magic fix. It was pretty much a guarantee that the first time this team struggled this year, the story was going to be that we just miss Duncan Keith so GD much.

Ryan Reaves won't help and shouldn't be sought. Hopefully the Oilers understand that.

I haven't heard the Ryan Reaves rumor, but I hate it and hope it isn't true.

I'm liking Bill Guerin's chances to be the next Oilers GM.
