Just an amazing feeling to get past Calgary. I didn't want this match up, especially after seeing the solid goaltending they got in round 1 and remember the 9-5 game during the season. Then after game 1 I felt like the Oilers used up all their comeback points in that game. Never been so glad to be so wrong. Lots of focus of McDavid and Draisaitl for their points (Draisaitl with 17 points in 5 games!), but so many players played at the top of their game through the series, it was a real treat to watch.

How many minutes did he play? Maybe 4? Barely saw the ice in the 3rd or OT.
Looks good on him.

Lucic words, “Connor isn’t my friend”.

What an ineffective and dumb comment to make going into this series.

I can see why you were not friends. You were a crappy leader when you were an Oiler. Pouting on the way to to the bench every time a shift didn’t go well. On the bench slamming sticks and cursing like a idiot, so people in row 25 new you were upset. He never tried to fix his situation as an Oiler. He just pouted. Yes, we get it Milan, you care and you are upset, yet you are not going to do anything about it.

I couldn’t think of a worse mentor. Thank you Ken.

I hated Lucic. Almost as much as Raphael Torres.

Well, to be fair, he was really dry while he was here. Had to use body lotion all the time. It was awful. How is he supposed to play like that?

So good. That game means so much.

Knock off Calgary like a pesky mosquito.
A stretch of days to heal.
Off to the WCF where anything is possible.
Goes a long way in solidifying 97 and 29’s long term status as Oilers.

I barely slept last night. Unfreaking’believable!

How we doing this morning?

I had an early day today, so I had to sign off a few minutes after handshakes, so I didn't get to enjoy the post-game that much. 97's worst game of the playoffs, but still makes a great play to end it.

Flames fans just need to shut up and focus on their team

Remember yesterday when some of the big stats' writers were talking about McDavid being a Conn Smythe Trophy favourite, even IF the Oilers don't make the finals? Well, apparently, Draisaitl would like to be a part of that conversation too.

Of the 25 goals the Oilers scored this series:
Draisaitl & McDavid combined on 11 of them
Draisaitl was in on another six by himself
McDavid's only non-Drai point was the Oilers first of the series.
Of the seven goals that neither Drai or McD factored in on RNH was in on five them and Hyman was in on four.

The only goal that didn't involve 29, 97, 93 or 18 was the Bouchard PP goal in Game 2. It wasn't "One Guy" like Sutter said, but it was certainly a small group of our best (including Kane) who firmly put this team on their backs and said, "Hold on! We're going to Round 3!"

I am of course bias but I thought it was a kick. You watch the overhead and he clearly moves his leg towards the puck to make contact, so is that not a kick? He even said he wanted to "redirect it" so if you are moving your leg to hit a puck, is that not a kick? Either way the call when the Oilers way. Make up call for 2017.

I am still stunned they won in 5. THANK YOU LEAFS for being smarter than everyone else and letting Hyman go because he wasn't worth the money apparently. 8 playoff goals and counting.

I couldn't be more excited!!!

I loved McD's celebration after the winner. To me it looked like a whole ton of frustration from past seasons coming out and him announcing he believes!

Think a redirect assumes the puck has momentum and it is just deflecting off your skate. For this Coleman is creating extra momentum in the same direction the puck is already moving. No way that can be argued as just a redirect it deflection like borderline ones that get called a good goal.

The more I see it the more I see how Coleman is sacrificing his balance to make the kick. He knew exactly what he was doing.

NHL actually got one right for once in a big moment.

That's what I thought. I thought it was a kick all day but was fully expecting it to count because there wasn't a soccer style kick so there was a bit of a case too count it especially since the call on the ice was a goal.

I found it interesting on the panel. Both former players - Bieksa and Botterill, people who played the game at their highest level, would know how to do it and would have had the athletic ability to do that, said it was a kick, the never played media guys said it was a good goal. I always defer to players on issues because they are the ones who should know best because they play the game.

Then we had Ol’ Ronny say “as a ref, I’d want the Flames to win” during intermission heading into OT. Like… TF was that? It eas bad enough we had the Hrudey bias on the Blake Jabroniman no goal but then we get that? Cmon.

Cmon.

Media guys wanted another game which I get. For media and TV, that series was awesome. Lead changes, comebacks, insane highs and lows, goaltending all over the map. Weird goals, NHL records being broke and the games best player doing some insane things, then other high notch players like Leon rising up.

It was a great series even if it was short. Nice that the Oilers get a little rest now, a few guys cold use it.

A ratty comment from a rat. Game management in hockey permeates through the entire system.

Skook mentioned Coleman crossing his leg over on the overhead, you can see it clear from the high angle opposite side, and to me that's the angle that probably got it overturned. I was surprised that it was overturned because the call on the play was goal so bar is higher. I'd still be pissed if it was an Oilers goal called back same situation, but this was karmaic for the Oilers remembering how the 2017 run ended.

Meh, regardless of whether the kicking call was valid or not, the Flames’ fans are just using it as the vent for their anger about losing the series. If the Flames actually had the ability to stop the Oilers from scoring 4+ goals per game, it would never have come down to one call by the refs.

Bring on the Blues or Avs!!!

100% agree with you! The better team won. The Oilers held on to leads better in more games, the Oilers were able to come back in more games, the Oilers best players rose to the occasion, the Oilers got more big goal, the Oilers had more depth players stepping up - EVEN JP GOT A GOAL!! The Oilers even though he wasn't great all the time got the better goaltending and got more big saves at key times. When all that happens, a team should win and they did.

Hat time to Dustin Schwartz who at times takes heat for the Oilers goaltending. Goalie coaches also scout other goalies and clearly he saw something with Markstrom because they targeted the Markstroms low glove ALL the time!

For me the debate about the "kick" comes down to what would it have looked like if there was a player lying in the crease at the time. If there was a player there, Coleman's skate trajectory would've been aiming for the player, which is, IMO, the essence of the rule in the first place, to stop players from potentially getting cut by skates. Coleman did not direct the puck, he propelled the puck, had there been a player there, his skate blade would've been aiming right for him. Therefore, it's a kick.

My two cents anyway.

Actions. Have. Consequences.

I don't mind the Tkachuk family going to the games and having fun. They should do that. I mind the broadcast making them a storyline.

I took my coffee break and skimmed through all 40 (40!!) pages of CalgaryPuck post-game. Wow. I get it, the overturning sucked hard, but it's not the reason the Flames lost. Their best players didn't come to play. It's like it gave many of their fans an excuse not to look under the hood. The Oilers management approach, if you will.

At this point, expecting to have to face that Avs team, but all I would love are two more games between Stl and Col where they pound the living crap out of each other.

We can only hope.

Markstrom was off his rocker bad this series. The defense showed a complete and total inability to prevent goals and chances for the entire series (except the last 18 minutes of game 1). The Oilers seemingly scored at will. They gave up 25 goals over 5 games. I still can't believe it. Defense should have been their strength, but boy was it a weakness. A lot more went wrong than an overturned call in a tied game when they were already on the brink.

Their offense wasn't actually that bad. Throwing out game 1, which was an aberration, the Flames also showed an ability to score on the Oilers. 11 goals over 4 games should be enough for them to win 2.5 games. Especially when you consider they absolutely choked away big leads in game 2 & 5.

Markstrom Sv% / GA

.857 / 5
.840 / 4
.882 / 4
.875 / 5
.786 / 6

5.12 v Edm
1.53 v Dal

That's shocking and Calgary should be concerned. In retrospect, Vladar should have gone in after the 3-0 goal in game 4.

All Calgary fans have to hang on to emotionally is a call that didn't go their way.. but in the end they lost FOUR (4 ) games (two at home).. and only won one (1).. their goalie had a 0.848 save %.. and still made great saves.. better team won the series.

True about Markstrom. He still made lots of great saves. His glove hand was not good in the series, but still, some good shooting by the Oilers. We usually are masters of direct shots into the stationary glove.

Smith let in some absolute stinkers in most of the games. That Johnny goal last night was awful. Not paying attention like the 3/4 rink goal the game before.

Part of this is maybe the Flames decision to try shooting from anywhere, so they are helping us out in limiting quality chances. We also did a good job of cleaning up around our net and the slot area in the series. Hopefully these are improvements that give some results against Colorado or St. Louis because we will need it. The chance quality that those teams will push for will be much higher than the Lames.

Looking past this series we've won nothing yet, but Colorado is going to be be a huge mountain. St.Louis less so.

If anything beating Calgary was the best thing in these playoffs so far.
