Maybe Savoie just needs another day to soak it in. No practice means no hockey related agendas.

Savoie Signs Amateur Tryout with Condors
Fresh off winning the NCAA championship with Denver, the Oilers 2020 fourth-round pick will continue his season with AHL Bakersfield

EDMONTON, AB - When you've had as positive a season as Oilers 2020 fourth-round draft pick Carter Savoie, you don't want it to end.

The 20-year-old forward, selected 100th overall by Edmonton in 2020, captured the NCAA Frozen Four national championship with the Denver Pioneers on April 9 and will extend his season with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors after signing an amateur tryout (ATO) contract on Monday.

The St. Albert native scored 23 goals and 45 points in 39 games during his sophomore campaign, including the overtime winner against the Michigan Wolverines in the Frozen Four semifinal.

Savoie scored in each of Denver's first three games as part of the NCAA bracket and was one of three forwards named to the all-tournament team for his efforts.

The Condors have five regular season games remaining, starting with Wednesday's matchup against the San Jose Barracuda. Their 33-20-10 record has them sitting fifth in the Pacific Division, and they have already clinched a spot in the AHL playoffs.

Still love to see them sign Jake Livingstone, a top ranked right shot D-man from Minnesota icon_nod

Can he maintain his NCAA-eligible status signing an amateur tryout? Or is playing in a pro game the end of his college experience?

I would assume that even on an amateur tryout he gets paid a few bucks so I'm sure NCAA is done.. he had 2 years at Denver probably time to get playing vs. higher level talent.. and a pro schedule.. he'd have to play AHL at some point anyway.. he probably feels this accelerates his pro career timeline.. if he proves he's ready after a year of development in Bako, he might get a spot on the Oil for the 2023/2024 roster.. with another year at MCAA it'd probably be 2 years before he gets a legit chance at a roster spot.. in the end I think he probably spends 2 seasons in Bako.. but its down to him.
