Damn Buffalo. THey better get back to sucking if we suck. Only thing that makes me feel better about us being bad is that Buffalo is too.

Rieder scored for them too. His 3rd of the season.

Bear hit in the head with a puck while sitting on the bench, leaves the bench.

That's pretty Oilers.

The puck in the head thing was from Rishaug on twitter, but replay looks like Bear got hit out on the ice. Either way, he's done for the night. Hope it's not serious

That could be terrible. He obviously hasnt been great but we cant afford to get even thinner there. Only ray of sunshine is if Bouchard was ready AND was an improvement over one of the current 6

O zone penalty while dominating possession against dead tired defenders.

This one will really hurt if the leafs score off it.

There is the clutch save they have needed from Kosko on the PK. Hopefully it leads to a good end result

10 faceoffs losses might lead to a scoring chance once
1 clutch save takes a goal away.

I know which one I am more concerned with the Oilers succeeding at

I guess we didn't watch the same power play for the Leafs. Four straight clean draws by the Leafs resulted in about 5 scoring chances. We win those draws and the puck is cleared.

Of those "about 5 scoring chances" how many went in?
A clutch save, by definition of save, prevents a goal 100% of the time. My point stands.

Although, the Oilers were 58% on the dot last night so perhaps that had a bigger contribution to the win than the big saves made late in the third and in OT.

It's worth noting, a defensive zone face-off with a man short is by far the hardest draw to win. If you looked at winning percentages for different scenarios, that's the one where even the top guys are likely below 50% most of the time. There's two reasons for that - first, you have a positional disadvantage - less space, and you need to protect the net, which is a higher priority than winning the draw. Centers tend to win defensive zone face-offs less often than they do offensive zone draws. It's not because they don't want to win those ones - it's just that the position favours the attackers.

Secondly, a man less is a massive disadvantage on face-offs. It means that you have less players able to go chase loose pucks. If the draw ties up at all, the other side can afford more players to come in to aid in the battle, and even if you pull it straight back in to your corner, if it's not right where your defenceman is standing, then he's got to beat an unobstructed winger who's forechecking. On top of that, positional play is even more important when you're short-handed, so you can't spare guys to leave their positions to help - the other team can to an extent.
