The concept has been stewing for a while, but actual execution was only ~4 minutes :) Could have been 3 if I didn't have to kick kids off me in the middle of making my masterpiece.

Didn't know Kris Russell had a concussion issue. Benning is still a bit rusty (to say the least) from his concussion issues. Jones seems to be learning how to play NHL defense, but he still seems more of a student than a guy ready to confidently assume a role in the NHL. Lagesson and Jones will probably be in and out of the lineup while Russell recovers, It would be interesting to see Bouchard, but I think it's best he continue the ripening process in Bakersfield.

Looking forward to seeing how Benson handles the promotion. Hope he handles things well.

Have to think puck movement from the d is improved with Russell out and Jones-Benning as the 3rd pair. And while the forward group loses a bit of speed, they gain a guy that can bring it at both ends of the ice in Benson. I really like the prospect of a Benson-Sheahan-Archibald line.

This is great. Young players sliding into depth spots after learning defense in the AHL while not being asked to be saviors of an NHL franchise bodes well for us.

I would be beside myself if somehow Benson translated to the NHL like Yamamoto has done this year. Dare to dream.

This is what you want to see. You have NHL vets on your team who maybe aren't high end but good enough play and be OK. This allows the young guys time to play in the minors and develop. Then when they are ready, they come up and make an impact. We saw it with Bear. Yamo has stepped in and been great. Jones to a lesser extent has been solid. Hopefully Benson will be able to step in and handle it.

Per Bob Stauffer, citing flight challenges, the call-ups will not be in the lineup against the Blues

Perhaps a tad tacky, but does anyone know what number Benson will wear? Is he just going to sport a random ‘well (46) it was my number in rookie camp’ kinda thing?

He's had the same number since he first broke camp here, 49. I'm guessing he probably won't be able to change that until he looks like a lock to stay with the big club.

49! Totally rando. I don’t like it. Take 27. Rid us of the Lucic memories. Kid is gonna be here for awhile.

You think the same of Riley Sheahan - so I'm taking this with a grain of salt!

Meaning I believe Riley Sheahan will be here for awhile? Yes. Yes, I do think he will get a 2 year extension. Big time like Sheahan.

A little taste of the bigs. Will trust Tippett here. He must have got a sense the kid was like a deer caught in headlights, trying to jump in in the middle of a playoff race.

Hope he learned a lot to be ready for his next chance.

10 g, 10 A in 40 games down in Bakersfield.
Not exactly lighting it up, but maybe they need a body for the 3rd or 4th line
Should be motivated.

Ugh...like Patrick Russell, this is a love that the Oilers have that I just don't understand. 4-5-9 in 61 NHL games at age 25. I'd rather give the reps to Benson.

If Neal is back, and Tippett feels Benson isn't ready, I think I do prefer Cave to be sitting around doing nothing for weeks at a time.

Agreed there. As long as we aren't icing a lineup with Cave and Russell dressed in it at any point...

Colby Cave is coming up, according to PuckPedia.

Oh, you know it'll happen :) Cave in likely for Gags.

I think Neal will come back, and then Benson's minutes would be marginal.. or he'd be in the press box. Probably better to give him top minutes in the A.

McDAVID! Oh YEAH Baby!!

P. Chiarelli math.. T. Hall = A. Larsson, Yak= bag o'pucks (OK he got one right...) K. Russell = $4.1 M+NMC, G. Reinhart= M. Barzal + A. Beauvillier, J. Eberle = R. Spooner,

Yeah - if Neal is back then I don't mind this. If he isn't yet and we get a few more games of Cave & Russell, then I'm less thrilled.

Well crap. Update today is that Neal has a lingering injury that he needs to nurse longer because it could be re-injured easily.

I guess we get to watch Cave get Caved pretty soon. Especially if McDavid misses a game.

So...is Benson coming back now with McDavid down? Or is there some other plug we can pull up to augment the roster? We do have Brad Malone in the organization still...at 30 years old, with 199 NHL games to his name, I think he's a prime candidate for a breakout performance.

Patrick Russell is obviously due for a breakout as well, along with Malone and Cave.

Not worried at all, we are well covered here! Benson can comfortably turn into brown mush in the A while we keep rolling in the NHL.

In all seriousness, Granlund and Jurco are both point per game guys since their demotion. They're probably the logical next call-ups, although Jurco's only played 8 games so I wonder if he got hurt?

And Benson returns to the AHL again.

https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/hockey/news/oilers-tyler-b enson-dropped-down-a-level/

"Benson appeared in five games during his nine-day stay with the big club, tallying one assist while averaging 11:35 of ice time per contest. He'll return to a featured role with Bakersfield, where he's racked up nine goals and 36 points in 43 contests this campaign."

Paper transaction? Or over ripening continuing?

Think he had to go down today so he can play in the AHL playoffs. Hope he does come back. He provides more than a lot of bums we have lower in the lineup. Still missing Kassian and Neal. PRussell should easily pass through waivers if need be.

And Benson is going to Switzerland

https://www.nhl.com/oilers/news/release-oilers-loan-benson-t o-gck-lions/c-319002298

"EDMONTON, AB - The Oilers have loaned forward Tyler Benson to the GCK Lions of the Swiss League for the beginning of the 2020-21 season.

The 22-year-old Edmonton native is two seasons into his professional career, tallying nine goals and 27 assists in 47 games with the Bakersfield Condors during the halted 2019-20 AHL season. He was also selected as an AHL all-star in January."

Any other Condors still left that could go to Europe?

I'm impressed that Holland was able to get as many players as he has to find places to play.
