It could also be eye-opening for us as to what this team really is.

If the Oilers can't come out with a good effort after playing a stinker a few days ago, that's a big time concern.

The month of December and specifically these early games will likely be seen as a turning point for this team.
I heard today they only play one team currently above them in the standings, the Blues. The rest are lower to middle class teams that a playoff contender should be beating.

If they struggle against the lower teams, as they did last game, and lose a handful we will all look back at this time and see where the season went wrong.

If they can come out of it with a large point percentage, the playoffs will all but be guaranteed, given the early season cushion they built. The good news is they have not had a real losing streak this year.

Hopefully the come out tonight with some proper effort and put the boots to the Kings.

They really really need to win this one. Ugh, if we manage to lose 2 in a row right now, we will have the exact same record that we had last year at game 32

Yikes, Dec was ugly after the mid-point last year.

This point was where the Hitchcock bump seemed to come to an end, eh? They had a few wins after he was hired...annnnnnd then just fell off a cliff. Any word on if any of our injured guys are back?

I'm curious why the Oilers recalled Cave rather than Benson, Yamamoto, or even Malone. Cave has 5 points in 16 AHL games this year, while Benson has 17 in 21. With two of our top six out, do we really need another "safe" borderline fourth liner? Worth noting, while the team may see Cave as more defensively responsible, he's also -11 in the 16 games on the farm and -5 in 38 Oilers games over this year and last.

Benson isn't lighting the world on fire, but the team needs someone with a pulse offensively, and I've never seen that from Cave (3-1-4 in 38 Oilers games, 4-5-9 in 61 NHL games).

Why would you call up Yams? Unless he's playing in the mini-game during the intermission?

He can skate at a pro level and has 5-6-11 in 16 AHL games this year. That's significantly better than Cave. He's also had some experience in the NHL, so isn't likely to come in too starstruck. He's generated shots while playing in the NHL previously - which is at least part of the battle. His NHL stats are marginally better than Cave's too - 1-4-5 in 26 NHL games - considering the gap in age, I think that's significant and projects MUCH better.

I am probably recalling Benson rather than Yamamoto, but I have Yamamoto over Cave every day of the week. You just can't put Cave with McDavid or Draisaitl and hope that he's going to do anything, where as I think with Benson and Yamamoto - while they're far from the ideal players there - they're not fish out of water.

Well most years, most teams are above the Oilers in the standings. This year the Oilers are fortunate to be above most teams. So it more about where the Oilers are in the standings than the schedule. Either way, the should come out to play no matter the opponent.

Losers 3 out of the last 4. This team needs to start showing up for games.

.500 hockey the rest of the way with 6 or 7 OTLs mixed in gets us around 95 or 96 points. Put'er in neutral boys!

If you take away our 7-1 start, we are basically a .500 hockey team since (10-9-3) - the good news is that they CAN'T take them away, but for as good as we all feel we have been doing, we're just 5 points up on non playoff teams in our conference. We really need to string together some wins here, especially against these bottom feeders.

Ironically, I feel the team has looked better since going 7-1, but as the saying goes, they don't ask how...

When I do a little... Uh... housekeeping, it definitely looks bigger. Doesn’t actually mean it is bigger though.

One of the best ways to describe the state of the team ever. I actually chuckled out loud at work. Got a couple of odd looks.

Also my nomination for the Oilfans post HOF. Well done.

That’s what I feel this team is.

One of the best ways to describe the state of the team ever. I actually chuckled out loud at work. Got a couple of odd looks.

Also my nomination for the Oilfans post HOF. Well done.

Does it make it better that I won my 3rd cup with that post? #3000Club

Oh yeah man, if you de clutter your house you definitely can make allot of space and you'll swear you moved to a bigger house. Throw out anything that doesn't bring you joy and increase your square footage is what we're supposed to do right?

That's what your talking about, right?

Worst six teams in the league & Oilers record against them so far this year:

#26 - Chicago - 0-1-0 (3-1L)
#27 - Columbus - 1-0-0 (4-1W)
#28 - Ottawa - 0-1-0 (5-2L)
#29 - Los Angeles - 1-1-0 (6-5W, 5-1L)
#30 - New Jersey - 1-0-0 (4-0L)
#31 - Detroit - 1-1-0 (2-1W, 3-1L)

Combined record of 3-5-0 against the worst teams in the league. That's going to have to get better if we're going to hope to be successful this year. No time like the present!

We've beaten the huge loser Taylor Hall and the Devils twice already.

That's great news. That means that after last night we are back to .500 against the worst the league has to throw at us!
