If he doesn't score against Team GB then we should cut our losses and get rid. With the news that McDavid and Crosby weren't going I thought GB may have a chance to keep Canada in single digits, but looking at that roster, perhaps not. Still it's going to be fun watching from our perspective.

I think it's great that the UK made it. Could have some good rivalry building games vs Italy and France! Kazakhstan and Belarus never brought much in my opinion. Latvia on the other hand...

Belarus killed Tommy Salo's career, so they did do one notable thing on the national stage.

To be brutally honest, we've got no chance of doing anything this time. We've just finished our warm up matches over here, going 2-2 with games against Italy (loss), Hungary (win) and two challenge matches which we split against Torpedo Moscow.

To be blunt as to where our hockey is, our squad's total wages for the season that's just finished wouldn't even total half of say Darnell Nurse. I'd love us to stay up, but I just can't see it. Were we to stay up, and manage to get into the next Olympics, it would do hockey in the UK a massive boost, but just won't happen. We didn't even get a mention at the biggest sports award ceremony for last year, when you consider how big an achievement getting promoted was.

Team Canada's structure is starting to take shape.

https://www.tsn.ca/tavares-joins-canada-skates-on-top-line-1 .1301310

"Canada used the following practice lines Monday:

Forwards

Marchessault-Tavares-Stone
Strome-Couturier-Reinhart
Henrique-Turris-Mantha
Bertuzzi-Joseph-Cirelli/McCann

Defences

Chabot - Montour
Nurse - Severson
Theodore - Stecher
Fabbro - (Dorion)

Goaltenders

Murray
Hart
Blackwood"

Of course, it will be interesting to see what Nurse can do on the big ice surface with a D partner like Severson, who is a right handed shot with some offensive capabilities.

Go, Canada!!!! rock rock rock icon_thumbsup icon_thumbsup

Sounds like Seksy is being solid for Slovakia, yet again. Same as last year. Now fingers crossed the guy can get through the tournament and rest of summer without destroying his body in some way!

There goes any plans to get a Leon white jersey!!! Don't like him any more after that goal!!

Seriously though, GB put in a fine display of brave hockey. So looking at the results so far in the Championships and my pessimistic view on how we'd do that was excellent. Being beaten by Italy and Slovakia quite convincingly I was fearful of all the games. Play like that against everyone and perhaps when we get to the two games that are mega important Denmark and France, we might just grab something and who knows stay up. faint rofl stupid

Keep the score below 10, score in every game was the mantra I was keeping to with this championship. I wasn't expecting us to do much else. We failed to get the goal yesterday, but we kept it to 8 which was OK, it's not the worse of the championship so far.

Canada did what they had to do, wouldn't have asked for anything less had this been any other side besides GB. The gulf in class was clear from the off, at times it felt like it was a Canadian powerplay that would never end, but our guys battled like mad. The BBC website said it all, the combined wages of TC is £46m, our players are lucky to get around £30,000 a year. Those that played can now say they've played the greatest hockey nation in the world, they'll have the pictures and possibly jerseys of the players they follow on TV. Will they get another opportunity, hopefully, but realistically not.

However on to Denmark for our next game with a day's rest. That is one of our big target games, we hope to make that more of a match and possibly get something out of it.

Beauty of a goal by Sekera vs. Germany . (Well, it was on a 5 on 3, but still was a great shot.) The Sekera goal tied things up at 1-1, then Slovakia scored again on the power play to take a 2-1 lead after the 2nd period and the shots are something like 27-11 in favour of Slovakia.

Don't write off Sekera just yet. Maybe the bigger ice distorts his play and playing in his home country gives him extra motivation, but the guy doesn't look like he has reached the end of the line just yet. He's on the power play, killing penalties, playing a regular shift and is the Captain of Slovakian team. The guy has a lot of pride and works hard. I think he will be in the NHL for at least a couple of more years, if his body can take the punishment.

Draisaitl is doing okay but seems to be off his game a bit.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit to watching the entire game on a long weekend Monday morning. I don't think any of the players on either team will be future NHL'ers but the hockey they played was okay.

Apart from Liam Kirk, who at 18 has just spent his first year in the OHL,none of the GB team are remotely close to that standard and I dare say would struggle in the AHL. That what makes this so freaking unbelievable. I didn't expect us to win a game, be it in regulation, OT or a shoot out, we shouldn't have been good enough to survive. That apart from the game against Denmark, which was a blip we've done OK has been a huge positive. We now need to build on this, we know what we need to bring next year, if we repeat this feat, but even just losing each game by one less goal will be enough.

It's going to be slow progress for us to get to a level where we can compete, but this is the first stone of that foundation hopefully.

That was a great game! To be down 3-0 and win 4-3 in OT, especially against a historical and geographical rival, is a great hockey story. No matter what level. GB should be a stronger hockey nation, with all the ex-pats in Canada. Plus they're kinda northern, with the commonwealth link to Canada, I like to see them do well. Had to do better against the Danes as mentioned, but they punched their ticket for next year.

Canada heating up too...big game against the 'Yanks tomorrow.

Guess we can thank the NHL refs if Canada manages to pull off this tourney. Every time I look at the score sheet it's full of Golden Knights.

Great game as the good guys, with help from Pittsburgh's secret weapon Matt Murray, shut out the Yanks 3-0! No points for Jack "carries the puck at high speed through traffic as well as McDavid" Hughes. Stone with a brilliant drop pass to Dubois as he goes behind the net. Dubois with an empty net slam dunk as the goalie thought Stone was wrapping around.

Drai kills it for Germany with 2g 1a in Germany beating of Finland 4-2.

Big time drama! The Swiss always give Canada fitz going back to when Krueger coached them. Stone is good. Poor Senators.

Other points of interest: Drai is done as Germany loses to Czech Republic. Sweden got bounced by rivals Finland and misses a chance to three-peat.

Semi finals:

Russia vs. Finland, 9 a.m. ET (NHLN)
Canada vs. Czech Republic, 1 p.m. ET (NHLN)

And you're only just finally starting to sober up? The Finns can drink...they season themselves at it by downing vodka while IN THE SAUNA! We had a Finn play for our Men's League team one year - his girlfriend was on exchange at the U of A and he had tagged along - and we made a concerted effort to get him smashed on one of his last night's in Canada...he drank us all under the table.

So disappointing. We have the puck in their end for 12 minutes straight, pressure up the ying yang...then they come down and score on a screen from far out.
