Oilers are getting 2nd and 3rd opinions on McDavid's injury according to Friedman today. Start holding your breath again!

No no no no no. I do not accept this. He was walking around just fine. We all saw it. Shut up. Jesus mercy. If I have to watch another losing season of losers, but this time without McDavid....

I’d rather they be absolutely sure. You don’t mess around with this kid.

Crossing my fingers we are all good.

I am not going to over react to hearing this. He got an MRI right after he was injured. I have to assume that he would have been swollen and heavily bruised. So if there is ANY chance that may have impacted the images, even the smallest, I would want that checked. This is McDavid, he's the team. Regardless if the first doc is confident, I would STILL be getting that diagnosis double and triple checked. If there is ever a guy you have to be 100% right, its him. If I am the Oilers, I am sparing NO expense when it comes to McDavid. You take him to whatever Doctor you need too where even this person is.

Saw a pic of him yesterday in a brace.. but oh mother of all that's sweet and holy.. let this kid be okay.

The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.

Considering the x ray came back as negative for a break and I assume if there was a ligament tear, it's pretty hard to miss that, my guess is he sprained some of the ligaments. Which if he did would explain how he couldn't put weight on it right away and the big brace.

Worst case scenario is a knee replacement and they're getting better at those all the time.

I did find that the results of his MRI leaked out very quickly (yet were very vague). Wouldn't want people to hold off on season ticket renewals.

If I am the Oilers, I am not just trusting the team Docs but I am going to the best doctors out there and get their opinions. Then I am going to my trainers to come up with a rehab plan and then I am talking to another set of phsyio's to make sure they agree. It's McDavid you do whatever it takes to make sure he's healthy.

Why would outside opinions be better than ones we have in this team though? I personally have been very impressed by how our doctors and trainers have handled themselves. I think they are already the best of the best. 5 year contracts for all of them are in order IMO :)

Is it ever possible to have a serious conversation in this place without the smart ass comments?

I don't get what is so funny about wanting to get a second opinion on an injury? Especially an injury with the best player in the world.

A second opinion? What he doesn't trust the Oiler medical staff!? In the 80s they would have played the next shift!

Sounds to me like Connor needs to ride the bus for a while.

Judging from that fan survey from the Journal, about 91% of responses are going to be smart ass. Does that fit with your experience so far?

Pretty much. The Oilers don't do a lot of things right and over the years have the attitude of being smarter than everyone else even though the results don't back that up. So you'd think the one time they actually do something right when it comes to their star player, it would be received well. NOPE.

I mean, it seemed like they were doing the right thing when they signed Tobias Rieder also. The Oilers will find a way to mess this up somehow.

Tobias Rieder is a national treasure (well, in Oilers nation). That record will stand just as long as 50 in 39 and he deserves the same level of respect.

My smart ass comment was actually in support of the 2nd or even 3rd opinion :)

This org has needed a 2nd and 3rd opinion on pretty much everything, dating back to before Katz bought the team.

Oilers update on McDavid gives zero information on what the injury is or his recovery time. Kinda weird.

“The Edmonton Oilers medical staff, in collaboration with top orthopedic specialists, have determined a rehabilitation protocol for Connor which will begin immediately”

REHAB PROTOCOL ENGAGE!

Honestly, they should have got a 2nd opinion on how to phrase that statement.

There has been too much speculation of how bad this injury is. I was waiting and hoping for an official release to clear it up. Word spread yesterday of how Connor was playing mini golf at west ed with a giant knee brace on. Then this cryptic statement?

How come I feel it can be one of two things: More bad than they want to let on, or a minor bruise or sprain that they are being super ultra cautious with.

Must have at least strained something, a ligament or muscle. Fingers crossed it's 100% for next season. And I guess hope this isn't the Oilers trying to hide something to not scare people before ticket renewals start.

If anyone asks why I hate Oiler management, show them that tweet. It’s surgery. But they want all the boxes to renew before they announce that. I hope I’m wrong.

In other news, I hope Giordano breaks his femur.

For a company that does nothing but manipulative public relations, they should really hire some public relations people.

"Our medical people and Connor consulted with top specialists and decided on a summer training program. Unfortunately the first phase of this plan is a two week vacation to a sunny destination so he won't be available to play in Slovakia. GM KG will be able to provide an update closer to the draft".

It's not that difficult.
