Definitely a smart move to lock up Koskinen before he could hit the UFA market.

I mean, outside of his glove being slower than Lucic, he’s not TERRIBLE. But he’s also in his 30s (he’s not going to be able to get [much, if at all] quicker).

It’s the most important position on the ice, and they’ve paid an unproven, older, goalie in a manner that tells him and the team that he’s the number 1. Yeah, he may be cool, calm and collected, but he’s so bad with that glove.

Wonder how many teams would offer him 4.5x3 this summer if we didn't sign him. Probably the same number that will be calling for permission to interview Kretzky to fill an empty GM or AGM job in their org.

Wayne will probably call, pretending to be from another org, and ask Nicholson for permission to talk to Keith. Nicholson will then quickly give Keith the GM job and let us all know he has no choice because Keith was in such high demand.

Put down your iPad, Tobias, and get back on the ice, it's your line's shift for this period.

Watching the Oilers play against a fast, hard checking team, the weaknesses in the roster get revealed.. team is too slow overall, and too few are willing to finish a basic check.

Lots of room on this roster for replacements next year, just replacing with faster skaters will be an improvement..

Well that’s game, like I don’t understand how you lack hockey basics in a tough game, 10 times out of 10 you would have seen a player skate and bank it off the glass but this is the Oilers so Kassian does a bullet pass down the middle and the puck is in Edmonton’s zone a second later for the goal.

Koskinen never had that puck. The one replay is pretty clear.

The only call you can make is that the Vegas player prevented Koskinen from going back and attempting to make a save on the play. But I don't think Koskinen ever knew that he didn't have the puck. It rolled and dropped from the get go.

Isn't Marc Joanette the ref that always screws over the Oilers?

Nope. Sportsnet keeps showing the replay from the front of Koskinen. Look at the one from the far boards and the sideview. Koskinen never had that puck. It hit him, slowed, and rolled down. It was loose without any contact from the Vegas player.

The Vegas player did bump into him and then wrap his are around him. There is a strong argument he prevented Koskinen from making a play to go back and make a save, but it wasn't contact that knocked it loose.

Maybe the fact Koskinen didn't know it was loose and never made an attempt to reach back and make the save was the difference?

I'm standing by what I saw, both views, contact dislodged it, too much time between when the shot hit him and when it came loose.

Yep, 100% good goal and you are right in that the reverse angle proves it.

Puck was already past Kosk when the Oiler player takes the Vegas player into him. There was absolutely no impediment on making the save by the contact, even if it wasnt the Oilers D man that caused it.

This narrative that the refs are screwing the Oilers needs to stop. It’s a lazy excuse for their terrible results. The Oilers gave screwed the Oilers. Night after night they’re the inferior hockey team. Their losing is the fault of the club, not the refs. Any flaws with nhl refs and reffing pales in comparison to the flaws in the goalie’s glove or the team defenses or depth scoring or scouting or managing or whatever else.

I agree. It was drilled into me as a player, I drill it into the guys I coach.

Constantly making excuses it pathetic. Every team has bad calls against them, there is no way there is some conspiracy against the Oilers.

The are a poorly run, poorly built team that deserves this fate.

He pushes through Russell determined to hit the goalie and they clip skates as the puck gets there. No doubt that was interference.

Wait, did Drai just get a penalty for locking stick blades with an opponent and breaking his stick? These refs need glasses.

well .. we have Starrett and Skinner?

Koskinene was brutal tonight.. he's looking like a league minimum back up. Don't worry though rumour has it that he's going to work on some things in the summer.

Regardless of Koskinen, the decision of the D to line change before LD got the puck in the zone is just a classic team characteristic
