Safe to say this is the Must Winniest MUST WIN game of the season. The Canucks are 1 point back on the Oilers but the Oilers have 3 games in hand. A win would make sure the Canucks stay behind the Oilers for the next little while.

Without sounding overly dramatic, this game could easily set the tone for the rest of the season. Historically, the Oilers come out of the Christmas break poorly. They should be able to beat the Canucks. Playing at home, riding a 3 game losing streak, the Oilers should be rested and hungry to get back on track. Must get the legs going and pop a few goals in early. Must win.

You know of course that this likely means that the Dys win 6-1.

Ugh, still no Russell.

That 1st pair should play 20 mins. 2nd pair should be playing 10 minutes. 3rd pair should be playing 0 mins. Instead it's gonna be 30-20-10, or 30-24-6, depending on how the 1st period goes.

No denying, the guy has been solid this year. And when you only have 2 NHL regular quality D left in your lineup, having him back would be a godsend right now.

Yeah I think it's more telling of the lack of depth currently. In a couple of seasons I feel they will be in a much better shape with Bouchard, Jones and Bear.

Yep, my dislike for Russell and his style of "let them in the zone and try to block the shot" style of defense is well known.

With the current depth I find myself begging for the news that he is back the lineup. One NHL pairing is not bad luck with injuries, it is terrible team building.

I am with you that Bouchard, Jones and Bear seem to have promise. Holding out hope that they can fix the plague that is our blueline depth for the last decade.

As far as this game itself. It is the same story as the entire season, hopefully the first line and RNH score 4
That and quality goalkeeping will be the deciding factor as we all know by now it wont be secondary scoring and defensive play.

Russell still hurt, Caggiula and Garrison are out with the flu.

Drai moves back to the top line, let's hope he's shaken off whatever was bugging him the past few days off, looked better against WPG.

With Vancouvers good young team, our limping D and lack of secondary scoring, JJ and Cagula out, Koski is going to have to be really good once again in order for the Oilers to pull out a win. ( Unless all that Christmas cheer had some magical effect )

Speculation on 1260 about Yamamoto being recalled. Not sure if there is anything to it though.

I really hope they don’t move him up here because of a weekend of good hockey. The only way I would somewhat support bringing him up is if Puljujarvi went down. And that’s just because I don’t think he should be here. He is not ready. He needs a pile of minutes and patience as he builds confidence. But they seem intent on slowly turning him into a grinder.

I hope they leave him down as long as they can. It would be nice to actually properly develop a player for once.

If they bring him up and he’s in the bottom six, 1.1 games later it’s yet another waste of time.

Somebody(s) in this organization has a bad habit of hoping players suddenly are breaking out. Never thinking of what to do after it doesn’t materialize and the effect it has.
