Yikes, really don't like the idea of getting him. I think we should follow the Pens lead. They realized they can win without him by having 3 solid lines and D that are just good at getting the puck in the hands of forwards ASAP in their own end. Pens are desperate now to recreate what they had last year with Bonino on their roster. Kessel has no one to play with on a 3rd line now.
We do need a good right shot PP specialist at some point, but not with Letang's price tag.

And as NetBOG pointed out, he's only averaged 54 games over the past 6 years (with a pro-rated 60 games in the lockout year), with a high of 71 games. 41 last year.
Good player for sure, but just too much risk for a guy on the wrong side of 30.
Wins in a row the Oilers need to get to playoff pace: infinity
games!!

Yeah, pens whole season so far is basically what happened to us for the first 20 games. Crazy low shooting % 5v5. Goalies bombing too. Unlike us though, they were able to keep a winning record with their PP, while we just kept waiting for Letestu magic.
Letang can be great. Pens know they can win without him though, so makes sense to try to move him while he still has a good reputation. Definitely costs way too much for us. I'd rather we bolstered the wings at this point than try to make a big gamble on D. Our PP needs to be solved by the coaches and in practice.

His price tag, both cap hit and assets required, is not a great plan for long term, especially as he may be on the down slide.. pass..

PC loves to over pay so I'm sure he is close to getting it done.
So this is what hope feels like?

Tied in for four more seasons too...we really can't take on many more of these long-term defencemen contracts unless it is precisely the right guy.
Maybe if the Pens keep half the contract...

With Letang's injury history, I would be really leery of him.

Who does Chiarelli trade for Letang? Hall? Nuge? Eberle? Ummmm, the Oilers are kind of out of high end players after that.

Supposedly it was the Pens that offered Letang for RNH
