There's also big picture of McJesus with Katz Jr on the south side by the main entrance. The place looks pretty good overall, although the cattle boards they're putting up to herd the masses into the Wintergarden look pretty rustic.

It is true. Katz jr is on the wall, but who cares.. the kid will own this team if his Dad get tired of his play thing.

Today is a major day for Edmonton, and a marking of a huge milestone. Controversial as it is, this is a major step forward for our city. Still dislike the deal overall, I'm pleased of the product we, as citizens, produced.

The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.

That's amazing. So strange that Katz hates the spotlight himself, but continually pushes his son in to it in ways that have to be somewhat awkward for him. Yeah, I'm sure it's fun to hang around the fringes of the team sometimes - taking the Lucic tour for example - but he sets him up for ridicule, and I don't think the owner's son hanging out with the team is ever going to approximate Katz's time hanging out with the 80s Oilers as a peer of some sort...it's a totally different dynamic. Very awkward.

Yeah, I can't say I care much if people can't leave and re-enter. I'm not a smoker, but I can't recall ever leaving a building during an event and then coming back. I don't think there's anything that I can't keep from doing for 2.5 hours, and so I think if someone can't go that long without a smoke, they should maybe be examining just how addicted they are (although, that's admittedly pretty judgy of me to say).

I've heard that the biggest reason for this may be that they don't want people heading to Mercer or some other pub and then drinking cheaper booze during the intermission. At Rexall that was never a problem because you were risking stabbing by entering any of the drinking holes around that rink but there's going to be more options and closer options at the new rink.

Only time it might be present a real problem is if we have a repeat of Game 3 of the 1997 Oilers/Stars series...

I find it a little bit big brother. And I'm far from an anti establishment guy.

You pay big bucks and you can't leave and return? Provided you are not overly intoxicated, willing to get frisked by security again and miss the first 1st faceoff, be able to walk in and out that door as often as you want.

I guess if someone with leukemia needs thc, he or she should just blaze up in their seat.

I don't mind it. The more that kids feels tied to the oil the better it is for the city as it lessens the possibility of a sale or move so my kids and grandkids will hopefully get to enjoy a stable hockey franchise.

As for the smoking this the cheap booze is a great point, but when there are restrictions people will find a way to get around the issue and do what they want.

Is smoking really the reason for this or is it deeper? What if your car alarm is going off and you receive a notification and need to check on it? Could that be a reason for no re-entry?

In other arenas that have this policy they do allow you to go out and come back in if there is an emergency, so there is leniency I'd have to think.

Yeah, I mean, I guess this is just the world we live in. I wasn't aware of it becoming standard practice around North America, but if it is, then I guess we will all just have to adjust.

For me, it won't be an issue since I don't smoke and don't know if I've ever really left with the intention of coming back into an event. Still, I guess I have some empathy. I agreed with bars and restaurants making smokers go outside (my brother is an asthmatic, and to me his right to breathe trumps smokers rights), but I never had a problem if people wanted to go outside to do their thing.

My guess is probably the manner in which this all happens. Security to get into the building takes its time, sometimes your in line for like 10 minutes, thorough investigation of all bags, coats, etc. Then the intermission hits, a mass number of people exit and then they all want to re-enter really quickly to get back for puck drop and so every one is rushing. Maybe it has to do with avoiding that rush of people into the game and fear of security missing something upon re-entry.

Went to the public tour today. Was absolutely amazed. Such a great job by everyone involved. The sight lines are fantastic, even for the seats at the very back. I'm a bit concerned with how some of the materials will hold up (railings, carpeting everywhere), but for now it looks great. The biggest surprised for me was how neat the PCL loge was laid out. I'd like to watch a game from there.

Holy makeral, the food prices are crazy though.
