Prices for Season Seats at the new arena:

Thanks for the info.

What if the Oilers didn't win the Draft lottery? I don't think anyone would pay those prices, especially with how oil prices have affected Alberta.

Tough to say. I think the hype of the new arena would ensure that it was sold out for the first year no matter what.

But if they continued on the MacT never ending development plan, I agree, you would start to see people dropping their season seats pretty quickly.

Wonder if there was a McDavid adjustment to the prices? Probably, I thought it was only supposed to be a 10% or so increase. Even that would have been hard to swallow if Lowe/MacT were still running the show still predicting development years every season.

The only 18,500 seats is pretty darn unfortunate now. That waiting list is going to be huge and the opportunity to house more fans and get the money quicker to pay off the arena has been lost.

That sucks. Feel bad for anyone that has been going for years and are not being priced out with a massive increase. Especially with the tanking of the economy, although hopefully some stuff recovers before the 16/17 season. Didn't the Oilers preach recently at an ticket holder event that they have made consistent increases through all the loser years because they didn't want to make a huge increase, basically exactly what they're doing now, when the team starts to win? So much for that.

Will this increase put is #2 in the NHL for average ticket prices? Just behind Toronto? I think we were already 4th.

An Ice District takes shape!

Functionality question: what is ingress going to be like in that building? I have to assume there will be two main entrances, like at Rexall, for LRT users and folks coming from A Winter Garden, but it seems like the main pathways would start to back up faster than an arterial road with a closed lane in rush hour.

Took a spin at Ice District HQ to get a layout of the arena and seating and what have you. After viewing my new seats from a more comfortable price point, it seems that I will be able to afford at least one season.

That said, all the literature says that all seating options are approximations as things still could change.

I can't believe how basic the new arena in Vegas is going to be :

http://assets1.sportsnet.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Screen-Shot-2015-08-18-at-9.43.03-AM-1040x572.png

You'd think MGM would have made sure to put in more suites or something to spruce it up, I think it would cater more to the Vegas crowd and events they hold there.

Edmonton is going to have one hell of a building.

You almost have to laugh at this point.

Katz Group seeks 800-car gravel parking lot north of Edmonton downtown arena

Nothing says a world-class, revitalized downtown like a giant gravel parking lot.

http://edmontonjournal.com/business/local-business/katz-grou p-seeks-800-car-gravel-parking-lot-north-of-edmonton-downtow n-arena

Quote:

The zoning would be temporary – expiring after 10 years...

Tim Shipton, spokesman for the Oilers Entertainment Group, said the intent is only to provide parking there while the 2,500 underground stalls in the Ice District are completed: “We need some temporary parking relief.”

Temporary, as in 10-years. And then depending on what the economy looks like at that point, we'll probably get an extension.

Quote:

“Opposed,” said Coun. Scott McKeen. “There are 18,000 parking spaces within walking distance of the arena. … There is no shortage.

For those of you that work downtown, is that true? Is there a need for a giant surface lot, or would you think the existing parking should be able to accommodate the arena patrons?

There is a metric ton of downtown parking within walking distance of the arena. I'm sure 800 extra spaces at 20 bucks a space times exactly 45 games per year (41 regular season, 4 pre-season, 0 playoffs) wouldn't hurt the bottom line though.

Agreed. Parking downtown is not in short supply, and people can even walk inside the bulk of the way, even if they're parking at the Citadel or under the Telus building (not recommended, the Telus parking lot is ridiculously expensive).

I agree with the councillor too - open lots are eye sores, and 10 years is a very long time. It's a cash cow for the guy owning it. He can sell parking during the day and at night for events, and his maintenance for a gravel lot is incredibly small.

I hope they stick to their guns on this.

Winnipeg's arena is downtown and there was no additional parking lots built of the size they're talking about here. Even after the return of the Jets. There is tons of places to park downtown Winnipeg, I'm sure Edmonton will be fine too.

Seeing as parking in downtown Edmonton on a Friday night is already a nightmare, I tend to disagree.

Near Ice District? I mean, if you're looking for free street level parking it's going to be a challenge, but if you're willing to hit up a parkade, there are literally a dozen choices.

Not to mention that there are trains that will be running there directly (the Metro Line) and to Bay/Enterprise (three blocks away and can be walked indoors through the pedway).

There might be an issue with IMMEDIATE parking since City Centre Mall is undergoing major renovations, and I'm not sure if or how that will impact the parkade there... but even that is an example of more parking being added in the near future as they are making that bottom level all parking stalls.

By all means, Rogers Place should create underground parking. And I wouldn't mind a few of the surface lots turning into parkades. But Edmonton City Council needs to kill this. It won't get any public support, and the last thing downtown needs is more open surface lots. It has too many already.

Should have been more specific.... free lots, for park and ride.
Kingsway you would get a ticket parking there unless something has changed there. Hospital and NAIT are both paid parking not like the lots at other LRT stations like Clareview or the Stadium.

I think Magnum wants FREE parking...could be wrong though. There's limited free parking around the MTS Centre too, but no shortage of paid parking.

It didn't explicitly state it in the article, but I think there is zero chance that this lot would be free.

I guarantee the street parking won't be free during events, and probably will run meters until at least 9pm once Ice District is up and running.

Where are you trying to park?

There's three lots off the Mall, there's the cavernous Library parkade. There's still lots of ground level lots. There's multiple lots along 102nd close to Jasper. Most of the buildings (Telus, Commerce, Scotia, Bell Tower) all have underground lots. The Chateau Lacombe parking lot is quite big. There's a couple of lots by the Shaw.

There are way more people working downtown than going to Oilers games, so I don't think there should be a big problem with parking. You may have to walk a ways, but that's already true with Northlands, and with the pedways, you can stay inside most of the way.
