Eberle for Giroux[ 104 vote(s) ]
1.Yes I'd do it. 53 / 51%
2.No I wouldn't. 51 / 49%

Straight up. Would you do it?

Giroux has basically been a point per game player for three seasons. He's been very bad coming off a serious hand injury this summer. He's got one more year on his current deal, then an 8 year extension for big, big dollars ($8.275 per season)

Eberle was a point per game player two years ago, and was a hair below last year (while dealing with his own hand injury.) He's close to point per game this year (13 in 17 games). He's on the first year of a $6MM/year for 6 years deal.

Too much $ for Giroux. If he was at $6M, absolutely.

Nailed it, my thoughts exactly. Maybe if Giroux was at $6.75M I'd consider it but not at $8M+

Nope.

If Giroux's extension was a couple of million a year cheaper I'd consider it, but not at 8m+, especially if he can never return to his form of previous years. That's too expensive of a gamble to take, both salary-wise and giving up Eberle-wise.

Nope.

Mysterious hand injury + a giant decline in performance / results is too big of a red flag. Unless the Oilers botched Eberle's hand injury last year so badly that he's now damaged goods too, then why not?

WAC's and GAB's. WAC's and GAB's.

I waffled like crazy on this. I said yes, but with great trepidation.

There would be a big amount of risk on both sides from a deal like this...which is probably why this kind of star for star deal so seldom happens. GMs get fired over who wins/loses that trade.

I would do it strictly because Giroux is a centre. It's a more valuable position than wing.

You would then be able to deal Gagner for help in other areas. Oilers have wingers than could immediately fill Eberle's wing spot.

Yeah, dealing Gagner and re-signing Hemsky would be parts 2 and 3 of this deal.

It's pretty tempting for me. The only time a guy like Giroux becomes available is in circumstances like this... you won't be able to trade for him when he's third in the league in scoring.

Given the depth at RW, I'd be tempted. It's risky for sure, but Giroux adds some grittiness to that Top-6 and has been a Top-10 NHL player the last few years.

I probably would... pending a good physical by team doctors.

Here's Jonathan Willis' take on it. Count him as a vote for "yes", although he doesn't seem to be considering the injury at all.

Eberle is 4 pounds heavier according to NHL but Giroux is a center and $2.25M more

No. Any moves in the top six should involve a size/grit upgrade. Giroux is a heck of a player, but the team "mix" would still suck.

Concerned as I am about Giroux's play this year, the thought of Nuge and Giroux as a one two centre punch is too enticing to pass up.

Also, I want those stupid ATB "let's work on our cellies" commercials pulled.

Giroux for Eberle straight up is a deal too good to pass up. Giroux is the type of player who makes everyone around him better and hell while were at it throw in Gagner and see if we can snag Hartnell and maybe Coburn to boot.

After 8 years of ineptitude you begin to wonder whose the real schmuck? Them for sucking or me for cheering....... *cracks open bottle of whiskey*.
