Just saw the announcement on facebook from the Oilers feed.

I realize the Oilers are on the east coast, but is the timing of this just a bit weird to anyone else? 8am seems to be an odd time to make a call-up unless something is up (ie. injury or ...)

I thought Hall and Joensuu were close to returning. Maybe one of the 15 defencemen are getting sent down.

I just thought of something... the Oilers last game against the Lightning was Omark's debut with the spinarama shoot-out goal.

Nope, they have played one more game since then in Tampa. Omark scored his last goal in Tampa, as part of a 3-2 shootout loss (Ladi Smid had the other goal).

They're obviously reading this forum and saw the frequent posts asking they haven't called up Omark.

Damn straight!

Although Hibernia makes some great points.

- why now, when the team looks like it's finally getting healthy?
- why at 8 am EST? Did MacT wake up to a vision this morning or something?

I figure either someone got hurt last night, or they are pulling the trigger on a trade today sending a forward away for a defenceman (or draft pick/prospect).

Just a suggestion but maybe it's a showcase of Omark for a future trade?

I never believe the showcase talk. It's 2013, every game a player has played is on film now. Unless you're Cam Barker, you can't trick a manager into wanting you.

Completely agree. If a team is making a decision based on watching a single game or two, then they're fools.

Not to mention, anytime anyone suggests a guy might be showcased, the coach plays him for like 7 minutes of icetime the next night.

I'm excited he is called up, but he will probably be out on the 4th line with Actin and Gazdic and everyone will complain how he did nothing.

I'm sensing the same thing will happen to him again, too...put him on the fourth line, play him for six or seven minutes...and then say he's underperforming. Maybe it will be a bit different this time...we will see.

Listen guys, he scored a cool goal on Youtube, so did Rob Schremp, so they're the same. He's never done anything in any league other than the SEL, Swiss-A, KHL, AHL and NHL.

The Oilers have an amazing record for talent acquisition, development, and retention. So if I'm choosing between Omark's stellar career or the Oilers capacity to understand and do well with the tools provided, as proof of Omark's capacity to be a good NHLer, I know which I'm going with. My faith is placed fully in the Oilers Brain Trust. Yeah, I capitalized that, because it deserves to be.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to say he's done nothing in the NHL. 27 points in 51 games as a rookie is decent. We all know he has the offensive abilities. And he's not exactly a lazy player. The only real question is can he hold his own without the puck well enough to warrant decent playing time in more than a call-up basis.

Great, another ultra-talented, undersized, lazy perimeter player. He's clearly this team was missing.

According to twitter, he's practicing in a yellow jersey, indicating he's not likely playing.

Some media speculating that he'll go in and Yakupov will get scratched again though.

Seeing as how underwhelming Yakupov has been this season I think I'd be 100% ok with that.

I thought Omark played well, wasn't a real liability and got one good chance.
That's more than Gazdik has delivered on a nightly basis. maybe when we play skill teams we could pull out the big guy and insert Omark instead? At least he has an outside chance of scoring, if you play the statistical probabilities game.

And he and Eager just got demoted.

For the record, I thought he played well last night. He got just over 9 minutes of icetime in his audition.

Offensively speaking he had zero shots on net, but I haven't found a stat on passing plays or back checking. He did both rather well.

Is this the last we see of Omark?

I guess that depends on injuries.

If Perron and Joensuu are coming back in, then someone had to go, but it's too bad that he didn't get a little more of a shot. If he'd been called up earlier, when we had more injuries he would have had a little more chance to see if he could force the organization's hand like Arcobello has, or at least to have built a little more of a market for himself.

But instead we played Lander at wing for a couple days and Hamilton for a game, and never ever scratched a fourth liner until last night.

Of course, we lost last night, so expect the Oilers to see that as proof that you need an ineffective fourth line every game. It boggles my mind that Gazdic has dressed every single game this season. Even if you think we need a fighter for tough teams, why would we need him in every game??? It's not like he's contributing.
