Not even going to watch it, I PVR'd it, saw some of the 1st period on the TV at the gym, these guys are frauds, they are not an NHL team, first two goals the D-men get burned, and then on the 2nd goal no one picking up the trailer (that's you Mr. Yak). Lose Bachman, so that experiment is over.

They are a beaten team. Lack of size, strength, and courage on full display the last two games.

This will be a long, long, long season.

Ok, I'm all over the place tonight, but rum does that.
Missing all four of the projected top four left wingers hurts bad.
When a guy on your first line started the year in the minors and is there because four guys ahead on the depth chart are hurt that's a huge issue

A travesty.

Katz really doesn't seem to care about this asset. I can only assume he needs the loss in one business to offset gains elsewhere.....

If they stop selling out every night he would care. Although it might just mean he asks for more money from the city to make up the difference.

With the five Cups they won it would mean a lot to me to join their organization, hopefully bring another one up there. That is the ultimate goal for me and the franchise

Ha!! Lesson learned from Kavis this year .... never go in too early with that one ... it can really bite you later..

I laugh now when I think of that rant of his .... 2nd or 3rd game in .. then continued to lose until th eend of teh season... absolutely no response from his team.. just goes to show, if you don't have the horses, the wagon ain't going anywhere, it all comes down to personnel.

Add Mrazek to a looooong list of third stringers whom the Oilers have propped up in recent years.

Well, it wasn't the calendar.

That may have been the worst game of the year. Bachman and Belov down. Eberle trying to beat everybody everytime he had the puck. This team thinks it's the globetrotters, but they're really the Generals. Sad, sad display of hockey.

The sad thing tonites Oilers roster still has Ebs, Yaks, RNH, Gagner, Hemsky...far more talent than Calgary, yet the Flamers at least made it a game against the Wings.

I'm sick of the talk, i'm sick of the lack of effort, sick and tired of the same old same old.

This team has no heart, no passion, zero, nada. Same glide in Forecheck, same hot potato in our own end. We were f'n owned tonight and Wings didnt even break a sweat.

What ever happened to "finish your check"? Compete level is the worse ever and its been like this for years.

Lowe better fire himself NOW, taking a fricken nap while his vaunted Oilers are getting worked like a rented mule.

At least the Avs game is on...can see some good hockey there.

I've been asking that question for 10 years, even the coaches have asked it, nothing ever changes. Got to get rid of the poodles and get some Dobermans.

I actually think it's the opposite. I've been pretty positive about this team this year (and I still believe they can be good, which is even more frustrating).

But this game tonight was a team that has zero confidence. I think Eberle trying to skate through everyone is more a result of him feeling like with Hall out that he's got to put the team on his back and do everything.

Overall, too many bad decisions, too many stupid drop passes, too many unforced turnovers, nobody wants to shoot the puck, nobody knows what to do in their own end.

Part of it is on Eakins. Trying to come in and change everything they were doing was (in hindsight) a mistake. Guys look confused out there and the special teams are in disarray with lots of new guys killing penalties and their powerplay (which had been a real strength for the team), has been brutal.

But a bigger part of it is on the organization for being a complete mess the past seven years. No head coach continuity. Tambo's dismantling of the blueline corps.

So while I don't completely blame Eakins for the disaster that this season is already (although he definitely wears some of it imo), but he's got to fix it. He's got to give these guys the confidence to play up to their ability level. Because there are a lot of pretty good players doing a lot of dumb things out there, and I think it's got to be (at least partially) due to their lack of confidence right now. Eakins does that by simplifying what they're doing and giving them things to focus on other than wins and losses (because they're not going to win 10 in a row). You've got to be able to start to find positives in what they're doing. And tonight there were not a lot.

So, I stopped watching after the 2-0 thing, but came back to just say something I realized while thinking back: Since the 8-2 game over the Flames back in the spring, the Oilers are 6-19-2.

Such a pile of suck.

Dear Katz,

Regarding your plans to move your team to Seattle.

Please commence, it would be best for all of us. Upon the following conditions being met...

(a) you take all members of the Oilers alumni
(b) you take all those zero heart bums, you refer to them as "players"
(c) the Pronger curse
(d) leave Joey, he's the only one in the bunch worth anything

The Oilers are like a car accident on the side of the highway, even though you know it is gruesome you have to look. When you do it is sorry horrible you wish you wouldn't have looked at it.
Does anyone really think that Katz is going to make a statement and fire anyone? I don't. I have a feeling that he wants the team to suck so badly that the attendance drops off so badly aka Florida Phoenix. So that he can get out of the deal with the new stadium and move the team. There will be no magical trade that will fix this team, there will be no coaching change there will be nothing. Just a pile of poop.

This interview with Ference. Wow. Even the captain is beat down.

Although I guess an absolute failure of a "players only meeting" will do that to you.

Nice to hear that the Oilers had the bad reputation around the league of having a divided room that is only recently starting to be corrected. Not really sure what to think about his comment that previous coaches had 2 sets of rules for the kids and for the vets.

This interview with Ference. Wow. Even the captain is beat down.

Although I guess an absolute failure of a "players only meeting" will do that to you.

The bowl is full Katz. Time to flush.

I basically cringed the entire interview, just horrible stuff to hear, and indicative of a still very toxic reality.

PVRing Ference so I can watch it after 1260 post game.

Struddy basically called out the Oilers saying they have no idea what a hard working NHL hockey team looks like, in game and in practice. A bunch of kids running around pretending to be NHLers.

Gagner on being boo'ed off the ice: "We deserved it."

I watched the beginning of the Ference bit on After Hours, a lot of what he was saying was that they need more guys buying into the system and executing it all the time.

I disagree that it's just a case of guys not caring. There's just too many guys on this team that have excelled (including in the NHL) for this to be the case. I think it goes deeper than that.

They're a young team that has no confidence right now. Lots of blame to go around, but they actually started the season out pretty solid (preseason included), and got horrid goaltending to start the regular season. Special teams didn't help them out and they were behind the 8-ball immediately.

Eakins basically said that they are playing scared, and waiting for something bad to happen. I said something similar to this in another post, and I really think that's their main issue right now.

There are too many good players on this team for them to be this bad. And I don't accept at all that they "need more compete", whatever the hell that means. Does anyone honestly think that they aren't trying out there?

They are trying, but not at an average NHL level or close to it. Meaning the effort level that the majority of NHL teams walk to the rink with, whether it's practice or game.

The Flames could show up and out hustle this team and win 5 outta 5 games this season.

I bet when Paajarvi showed up in St Louis he was shocked, "Whoa, these guys are serious."

I don't think it's an issue of effort though. We're obviously not in the locker room, but do any of Eberle, RNH, Hall, Gagner, Yakupov, etc. strike you as guys that are inherently lazy? I think a lot of the mistakes they're making right now are due to lack of confidence and the indecisiveness that comes from that. Eberle trying to do way too much out there tonight (as I said earlier, I think with Hall out he's feeling some pressure to perform).

Yakupov looks like he's trying to remember everything that the coaches have ever told him every time he touches the puck. He misses so many one-timers right now it's insane (at least one more tonight that I saw). That's not because he's just not trying hard enough.

I don't doubt that the Flames could beat the Oilers 5 in a row right now. But again I think that they're more confident in what they need to do and they just go out and do it. The Oilers can try as hard as they want right now, but if it takes them 2 extra seconds to decide what to do every time they need to make a decision, they're always going to be a step behind.

Mike made the point after the Toronto game that Gagner got burned and looked lazy on one of the goals. But then when he went and looked back at it, it looked like Gagner got caught in between and didn't know which direction he should go in. That to me is exactly what is happening to the Oilers 40 times a night.

I do agree though that they've got to work their way out of it. They have to work harder in practice to do it right every time and start to build confidence that way.

Don't have to be in the room, the results on the ice speak for itself.

And no I don't think they are lazy. But I do think that compared to other NHL players (ignore the whole skill/talent thing) that the effort isn't high enough or it's wasted.

Because we lack the veteran guidance saying "Hey, 20 reps is good, but I've been doing 30 for years, kid." or "Don't waste your effort on those toe drags, you f'n outskate him wide and put it on net hard." or "Hey man, if they are pushing us around then you gotta jump in and help or they'll do that to us all season long." or "For that PP, don't hold on to that puck so long, you move it quick or put it on net, or the D have plenty of time to get in position."

It's a room full of kids left to figure out how to be NHL players without enough on ice examples to follow. And right now the process of letting them do it on their own is flawed and broken.

To me, it seems like a basic team chemistry issue. These guys don't give enough craps about each other to get up for the games. Hence, butter soft play, hopeless toe drags, no pushback.

And that lack of crap giving for sure goes right to the top.

The players don't care about each other, or the coach, or (especially) the management, or (sadly) the logo on their chests.

The good news is that the owner LOVES the management, loves the sold out building, and loves the logo on the chests of the guys on his VHS tapes from the 80s. As for the current reputation of the franchise, the fans, and the on-ice product... Uh no. No craps given.
