I just read this in the Toronto Star, and figured it was simply a matter of time after the NFL settled theirs.....

Ten former National Hockey League players, including former Maple Leafs Gary Leeman and Rick Vaive, claimed in a class-action lawsuit that the league hasn’t done enough to protect players from concussions.

One big thing ive noticed is most of these players do not qualify for the players pension especially some that played under 25 games. Not shocking that this has happened and expect more to jump on the band wagon. Especially guys without the necessary amount of service time to cash in on that pension

Besides Steve Moore, I am hard-pressed to think of any players that should be exempt from the 400 game provision. Six of them (applicants) have played over 200 games, and four of them have played more than the required 400 gms.

Aitken-14
Banks-20
Bennett-580
Dunn-483
Holmes-45
Manno-371
Stewart-229
Titanic-19
Leeman-667
Vaive-876

Huge talent, just couldn't handle the ice.

Then I'll just regress, because I feel I've made myself perfectly redundant.

Except for Gary Leeman and Rick Vaive?

Bob Bourne joined the suit yesterday, who I expect everybody has heard of: http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2013/11/26/former-isles-g reat-bob-bourne-joins-class-action-concussion-suit/

His son is Justin Bourne, who runs The Score's Backhand Shelf blog.

I guess concussions from a big collision sunk his career.

On a related note - there are now a couple hundred ex-players that have signed on to the lawsuit.

RT @JasonGregor The initial 10 player lawsuit against the NHL is growing quickly. Over 100 confirmed now, and Bob Bourne hinted will double or triple soon.

I doubt many of us are surprised by this. I think I remember a conversation a few years ago on here where we predicted it was only a matter of time before the NHL had to deal with some concussion lawsuits and that it would be wise to start taking the headshots / fighting concerns seriously.

So can I sue The Oilers for all of the concussions I have received from banging my head off the wall while watching them play?
