This sucks, but at least they got a point out of this game. A TMac coached team would have lost this in regulation.

Well that was a kick in the nuts. 17 seconds away from 2 points. You end up with 1.

I like the fuzzy new toy too, but I would be ripping McLellan pretty hard right now. Either his assistants aren’t warning him or he’s not listening.

Feel bad for Koskinen. He was solid. This should have been a shut out.

I thought there was a chance there for Kassian to try for the empty netter, but instead he threw it up to the direction of Lucic. Was he scared of it being icing? Every other team shoots it on us from everywhere.

Speechless, how did we throw that one away? crazy

We'd done so well, and were unlucky to allow them to pull it back so late and then get caught by a sucker punch in OT.

Thought the third line had an effective game tonight, and we looked solid once more, but it feels all wasted by that ending now.

Either Conner-Drai or Spooge would have been smart, why have Lucic and Kassian? Just doesn't make sense. Id rather have Rattie and Khaira out there.

Really not a bad outcome considering that they had to endure so many non calls by the refs again. Frustrating because they could have been tied with the Dinks in the standings and now we're 3 points behind them. Lucic on the ice with the goalie pulled? Really ? Hard to figure that move other than trying to boost his confidence. That part was ugly! Koskinen was the first star in my books.

....a few random thoughts...

....Benning wasn't bad today....expect he will be a healthy scratch against the Kings on Sunday night to make room for Chris Wideman...

.....Koskinen deserved a better fate....maybe the shot in the upper body slowed him down, but he was pretty solid most of the day....

....Rickard Rackell is an absolute Oiler killer....

....McDavid is McDavid, but it's going to take him a while to find his stride under Hitchcock....hope not too much time....the season is going by fast....

Nuge centering the second line is going to work out....just a hunch....

....would imagine the Oiler brain trust will be renting a few limos and heading to see the Condors play in Ontario this evening...I think it's only about a half hour drive...hope the Condors do well, but I still think Yamamoto and Puljujarvi should stay in the AHL at least till mid-season....maybe the trade deadline and beyond....

Lucic on the ice 5 on 6. Badddd idea.

Gravel looked very good.

Spooner has some wheels and looked much more settled.

Koskinen was fairly solid.

We still need to consider bringing up Bear or Jones.

When is Reider back?

Pretty thin line -up of wingers after the usual.

Loo is being used in a checking role by Hitch as he is fairly good on the boards which 6-on-5 play generally has quite a bit of as the team is trying to grind out the remaining time in regulation. I don't know that I would fault him for that tying goal. Having said this, we'll see if Hitch does the same thing in similar situations moving forward.

Dummy on that tying goal was actually Klef. Totally abandoned the front of the net on the initial shot. He should have been right there to clear the rebound or tie up the free man.

Klefbom has a few costly brain cramps every game it seems. Lucic was too slow to get to the open guy who hadn't scored a goal yet this year. Lucic is a give away machine when under pressure but aside from being too slow to get to the goal scorer, it wasn't really his fault. Gravel really showed some value in this game and Spooner was good too. I thought the Oilers were lucky to be even after one but were pretty good after that. Not sure how Talbot is going to get back his starting job at this point. Very frustrating loss after a great goal by Nuge.

Brown felt there was a mistake on the forward players put on the ice and the Ducks took advantage of it. Oilers lost the puck battle in the corner as Stauffer and Brown seen it. Lucic came over from his off wing to support and did little more than watch. Then he watched the point man. Then decided to hustle to the slot when it was too late. I’m blaming the coach more than Milan though. He’s not a PK on this team. Hopefully he learned his lesson.

I agree that Leon eventually lost the game for them, but that was a match up that cost them just as dearly. They were 17 seconds away from a shut out victory. But Millard contests that Brodziak missing a wide open net is a bigger contributing factor in the loss.

I thought Lucic was pretty weak sauce in the corner on the guy that made the unobstructed pass to the point. That bothered me more than his lack of awareness/quickness after.

I looked at it again and you're right. He looked like he was taking a breather and let the guy make that pass.

I didn't mind this game other than Milan Lucic on the ice late when you know the Ducks are going to pull their goaltender. You want guys who can win races to loose pucks, who can get in a passing lane and pick one off...which is the antithesis of Milan Lucic. I saw this coming as soon as Gibson was pulled and 27 was on the ice....you just knew there was going to be a breakdown somewhere. This was like TMac throwing Looch out there 3 on 3 2 seasons ago. Should have left those guys on the bench, they had a strong game otherwise.

Nice game for Nuge. 17 away from standing up as the winner, nice goal seconds after a strong backcheck. Passed one up on the PP earlier, can't do that. Some open looks for the Oilers, but pucks bouncing on garbage ice or just not executed.

Oilers' D were shinpad assassins tonight, for God's sake make a lateral move and get a puck through. Notable for a decent game on D was Gravel.

Otherwise, my only other complaint with this game is the turnover rate of Leon D. If any coach can get his dumb pass attempts out of his game, some blind...some when he's looking, he'll improve as a player. LD could be a top 5-6 player in this league, he's got it in him. There's so much more there in a couple aspects of his game.

I just thought the Ducks didn't really have anything after Nuge scored, not a lot of energy there. Their game is just slow garbage, clutching, grabbing, interfering, imagine paying for the privilege of watching that shat every home game. That's the kind of game they play, it's really pathetic how they have to win hockey games. I don't know about the Oilers, but that farking Anaheim team is going nowhere.

You are right that goal isn't on Lucic, it was more on #6 and #77 both getting crossed up. #77 way too soft on the play, the goal scorer slides right by him as #77 is going the other way, the wrong way, he should have hit him, prevented him from crossing the goal and getting open ice. When in doubt, freaking hit someone!

Millard is an idiot. It’s obvious he watched this game on his Apple Watch while trying to do a radio show.

Either that or he’s hoping for a Ched gig.

He’s really quite terrible, if you’re talking about Dean on 1260. Dumb as a bag of hammers and consistently makes awful arguments and logical fallacies.

I never call in or text these shows. But this guy bothers me on some nights. He continually encourages listeners to text in and prove him wrong. So on a few nights this season when he has gotten his mind stuck on something with blinders in place, I have texted in. But he seems to cherry pick what he shares with listeners. It seems he will share softball opposing views against his own for some balance, but avoids texts that might shoot holes in his opinion. Tonight I was like, why bother...lol.

The only reason I flip onto his post game is that M Kassian, Struds or Gregor sometimes chime in with their views. If it’s been a controversial night, I like to hear multiple opinions that are not from some guy that’s been a fan since the WHA.

Kinda feel I have to be fair to Lucic's line. They dominated possession all night. 0 high quality chances when they were out on the ice. Only 4 shot attempts against, vs 17 for. Hitch puts them out there hoping they can grind stuff out on the boards and try to slow the game down. But the whole team was playing our usual scared panicky brand of hockey from around the 3-4 min left mark on. Hitch is gonna have to beat that out of this group after years of McLellan possibly encouraging playing scared.

You can trap if you want late, but you can't stop having any aggression in your game. The zero aggression scared style has been burning us for a long time, and that is no way to play. Trap is supposed to be about counter attacking when the other team makes a mistake, not constantly running away.

Didn't see the game saw the highlights.

Does Lucic play on the PK? Like Ever?
Then why the FK is out on a 6 on 5?
Hitch goin' Full Retard.

I wouldn’t hang it on Lucic solely either, but it was questionable position he was put in by the coach, and he wasn’t much help. It’s entirely possible that puck never makes it to the point in the first place with 17 seconds left, had a better decision been made.

RNH should have been on the ice.

Not going to pin this on Looch. This game doesn’t go to OT if Connor and Leon show up. Did not like their game at all. Connor got owned on that winning goal. Brutal play from both he and Drai today.

In fairness to Hall, I've wanted to throw a waterbottle at Eakins all season.

Connor was owned on that play? Didn’t show up? He played on just about every line tonight. Did you forget his work on their only goal?

Oilers played very well the last 2 periods. They were seconds away from a shutout victory. Draisatl sucked on that play in OT, but it’s very likely there is no OT if the right matchup had been made for 6 on 5 hockey.

This should have been a 1-0 victory.

Klefbom has a few costly brain cramps every game it seems.

Probably comes with playing over 25 minutes a night. He is right near the top of the league in average ice-time, which is quite the ask. We will see if he gets more used to it, but he's probably more sound than any other option out there at those minutes.

Apparently 78% of teams who have a playoff spot at American Thanksgiving end up going to the playoffs.

The Oilers are not in a playoff position.

Sweet effort by Drai on the game loser.

Little stick jab and then skates away to leave Rakell at the side of the net to whack away for a second and third opportunity. I hope Hitch is all over that joker of a play.

Oilers are 1/2 game out of the playoffs, and were 25 seconds from being 1/2 game into the playoffs. Lets not lose prospective.

Flybys should be cause for the press box. It just screams lazy, waste ass effort.
